Default ****load of launcher.exe ctds

why does launcher.exe keep failing me after just a few minutes in any kind of server? I'm kind of getting tired of going back to the desktop or taskmanager because the game locked up....

And as an edit: a reinstall didn't help..

A launcher.exe error usually points to a corrupt update file Mr Chap. Within the Steam Library there's an option to check the game integrity. I'd give that a go.

Also, it's worth posting up your rig details as someone may be able to offer some config advice whcih will help your specific set up.

Good luck!

You might want to get rid of the four X's, you can get banned for that...

If you are running WinXP or less than 4GB RAM this is the reason. Get Win7-64 and more RAM.

Otherwise reinstall all programs from redist directory in Steam/CoD

If you have 4gb RAM this may not be enough if you run anything in background. Use Gamebooster or similar free software to unload all unnecessary processes. Recent patch changed something in memory management and 4gb RAM may not be enough unless you keep windows very slim.

Try reducing texture quality and a guide(5) in my sig if nothing helps.

Verifying the integrity of the game file cache is one of the first things I tried. That didn't work.

as far as sys specs go:

gtx 460 regular speed and latest regular drivers
win 7 home premium 32 bit
quadcore q6600 at regular speed
4 gigs ram at stock speed

Er, more info on this? Has this been confirmed anywhere? I run 4 gig, and rarely get launcher failures - but just recently I've had about 3 or 4, always the first time I load the game.

Your advise could cost him hundreds of £ or $ and might not make any difference, also the specs say:
  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows® 7 / Vista SP2 / Windows XP SP3
  • PROCESSOR: Pentium® Dual-Core 2.0GHz or Athlon™ X2 3800+
  • (Intel Core i5 2.66GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 2.6GHz recommended)
  • RAM: 2GB (4GB recommended)
  • VIDEO CARDirectX® 9.0c compliant, 512Mb Video Card (1GB DirectX® 10 recommended) – See supported List*
  • DIRECT X®: DirectX® 9.0c or DirectX® 10 (included on disc)
  • SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • HARD DISK: 10GB
  • PERIPHERALS: Mouse, keyboard (joystick with throttle and rudder control recommended)
  • MULTIPLAY: Broadband connection with 128 kbps upstream or faster
  • *SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS AT TIME OF RELEASE:
  • ATI® 4850/4870/5830/5850/5770/5870/6870/6950/6970
  • NVidia®: 8800/9800/250/260/275/285/460/465/470/480
I think maybe its problems with the games code for running a dedicated server, which shouldnt load out your system at all.
I'm sure they'll sort it out sooner or later because they will have to if they want to live up to the specs they have listed for running the game.

If one reads just a little bit in the forii, one knows that min. specs have a very loose connection to reality, not only in CoD!

yep exactly my point mate
That should not be the case surely the real spec's should corrected so people dont buy a game they cant use? Or the forum will be full of posts where people can get stuff to work.
