Teamspeak is a Voice over IP program.
(short: TS or TS2, because the current version is Teamspeak2 but most commonly the number is dropped).

You download and install a client on your computer. You run the program and connect to a server, either by searching it or by adding it manually to your own server list. After joining the server you choose a channel.

Now you basically transmit through your microphone to all people on this channel and you can hear them. There is a little delay (lag) between the moment you speak and they hear it and the other way around, but that is pretty low.

The program is pretty easy to use for most people, but it has some flaws. At first the message delay lag, the sound quality - remember, this software is pretty old and shaped for performance, not quality, compared to counterparts like Ventrilo and it also has problems with some sound configurations. But considering how many people use TS2, it's still the best choice if you play on different servers.

also make sure you get teamspeak overlay, means you can see who is talking in game as opposed to just guessing at the voices on comms. the UK dedicated forum is pretty useful, has some help on set up and all that jazz - http://www.battle-fields.com/commsce...ad.php?t=11672 set up guide, download links for TS and TS overlay. also this one seems to be troubleshooting thread... http://www.battle-fields.com/commsce...ad.php?t=11477

get on comms, get to know a couple people, and you can dominate with decent teamwork. it massively improves the online experience. oh and uh where is it... ah here we are, http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_008a.html - brevity code for comms, and go here - http://www.darts-page.com/ click on "articles" on the left hand side of the page and then look for the "roger, out" article.

Agreed. There are still a lot of veterans not aware of Teamspeak-Overlay, though it is extremely important, especially as most people just say "I'm there buddy." instead of using communications-rules like "This is Blue 7, I'm on your six, Blue Leader. Over.".

Teamspeak Overlay is a must in my book too.

Alos here ia an old tutorial I made when I ran a squad once upon a time.

It may shut down, if it gets to many hits, just keep checking it will come back.

Does anyone know how to get ts overlay to work in vista? It seems the program runs fine but because of the differences with how vista handles 3d video it doesn't display on top of il2. Anyone using ts overlay with vista?

Thumbs up

I read in one of the above links where the onboard sound from the Mobo was used to provide sound for the game, and a 3rd party plug in sound card was used for the Teamspeak or vs v.

another pointer that may be of help

If like myself you have onboard sound option (AC97) & also added a sound card (creative Audigy 4) to your system, then set Team Speak up on the onboard sound with the use of a headphones / mic set & the game sound set on the added sound card.

this will give you a crystal clear team speak set up through your headphone / mic, while still being able to hear the game sound & not have one drone out the other while set up on a single sound system

I'm wondering how that sets up. I have a headset that has a microphone earphones and Freetrack L.E.D. Pointer on the headset band. I currently have headset plugged into onboard Mobo sound. Effectively, the microphone, earplugs and freetrack Pointer are all on the headset.

If you plug in the microphone in the 3rd party plugin sound card and then use the onboard sound plug for the earplugs on the headset is that what is being thought of?

My headset has two plugs... Microphone and Earphone

I do have external speaker system, so I could use 3rd party plugin board to the external speakers and Headset to Onboard Mobo Sound (AC97). If I take one ear piece of the headset off it dislocates my Freetrack head pointer.
This doesn't seem like a good option.

I've got a competent 3rd party sound card I can install to accomodate such a thing, but I'd like to read about some positive comments or suggestions about doing it first

I think he is saying he uses External speakers for the game and the headset/mic with the teamspeak. I guess he turns up the sound on the externals, which... duh! doesn't sound quite right. I guess if he uses a one ear piece headset that might be an OK way to do things.

I'm sure I must have missed something.

Anyway, I'd appreciate reading thoughts on this.

I only have an onboard sound setup.I have a usb headset/mic.I have Teamspeak set to hear the voice over the headset and the game over the speakers.

However in the Teamspeak settings under the options you can set what you want the headset to use and what you want the mic to use.So you can mix and match if you so desire. So even with phono plugs(non usb) and onboard and soundcard you can split the game sound from the headset.
