Question New to the game - problem...

Hi all
I've recently started playing Theater of War, just completed the training missions, no problem. My first campaign mission, however, is giving me a bit of a headache.
Playing the Polish campaign, the first misssion is defense of a town.
To the rear of my trenches, there are 3 artillery guns. The problem is that these guns refuse to fire. I give them Area fire/Attack commands, and they do nothing.
The outcome of the battle, as a result, is a swift defeat for me.
Not the greatest way to start the game.
Does anyone know what conditions must be met for them to fire?
As I said, this is putting me off a bit, and I'm not even sure if I want to bother...
but, if anyone can give me a solution, maybe I will persevere and can still get to enjoy the game...
Thanks in advance

You've encountered one problem and you want to give up on the game already?

The artillery pieces do not have spotters. They can only fire at what the artillery crew can see.

Left click on the unit. Then click on area fire and move your curser around. The arrow from the curser to the unit has to be orange for the unit to fire at the curser. If the arrow is black the line of sight is blocked.

Click on the unit and then hit enter. This will show you what the unit can see. Then click enter again to release your view from the unit.

Yeah what Mongo said, soon you'll be in screenshot heaven! There are some very cool mods too

Also if it really p!sses you off hop into the editor & either move the guns or give yourself a few more units. You get some seriously powerfull tools to create your own maps & missions (familiarity with the IL2 FMB helps with the map editor).

Here's one of mine, Knokke's Typhoons on my Hill112 map

Polish campaign is one of the hardest. Try the Panzer Lehr one first.
