Default Thinking about buying the game

Good afternoon all,

Recently I reinstalled the Janes: World War 2 Fights. And got hooked on it so I deceided to search for more current games.

I came across Cliffs of Dover and was wondering how is the gameplay? Also I have read that steam does not update past V1.05. How easy is it to update the game when patches come out? I saw on the forums the most recent one is on Oct 12, 2012.

Futhermore, does the game support the use of a mouse instead of a joystick? I do have a joystick but need to grab it from storage.

Also is there any gore in the game if you get hit in the cockpit or Oil splatter / bullet holes? Roughly how many different types of aircraft can you fly? Any american aircraft? Just a rough estimate I dont need a giant list. Lastly how is multiplayer?

Mainly, my question boils down to is it worth purchasing on steam or getting a copy off amazon?

Thank you for your time,

Varack

Welcome!
The beta patch is very easy to install (just unpack to a proper folder) and it will go to Steam relatively soon too to be installed automatically.

For multiplayer check out this thread http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=35030

or videos http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=29379

List of aircraft is rather big and should be in official game description. Amazon sells Steam copies only as well as all other retailers. Look for special sale deals.

PS. Not sure about native mouse support but you can use 3rd party joystick emulator software.

If you are interested in American aircraft and doing multiplayer co-ops then get Il-2 1946. It is VERY good

Steam will only update to the latest official version, we are currently using a Release Candidate which, once fully tested, will be pushed via steam.
In the mean time, you can use the instructions Ataros gave you above.

Although is not required, using a joystick it is a necessity and for things as "simple" as taking off, you will need rudder pedals or a twist handle joystick as the engine torque will pull the plane to one side.

There are bullet holes and oil splatter but the only "gore" you will see is your screen getting reddish when you are hit (or completely black when you are dead).

This is the Battle of Britain. You will not find american planes as they where not yet involved.

At least in my opinion, is a LOT better than single player and depending on the number of people flying, can get really exiting and challenging.

Is a big YES from me. You will encounter bugs and errors but the amount of time you will enjoy it will be more than worth the money.

For what I paid, I thought it was worth it. The game isn't perfect, but it's improving with each patch. You'll have to make sure you have a good computer, and you might have to perform a few tweaks to get it running as well as possible.

As others have mentioned, Il-2 1946 has American planes (just about every major type, but heavy bombers are AI only right now) and it is a stable and well-proven game. However, on many levels it's not up to par with CloD, and I find it hard to return to.

Cheers.

You need to make sure first you have a fast enough computer to run the game.

CLIFFS OF DOVER is VERY demanding in terms of computing power and graphics cards.

Basically you should have a fast Core I7, preferably a Sandy bridge or better, a 1 GiG Graphic card like an NVidia GTX580, and 8 gigs of good quality RAM.

I play just fine on the computer in my sig, obviously with settings turned down, but it is perfectly playable, especially with the latest RC patch.
Of course, a powerful computer is better...

Thank you for all the replies. I think when I get home from work i will buy it and give it a whirl.

I am not really concerend about my PC, it runs pretty much all the latest things on the highest settings with no hickups.

final questions:

I have a Radeion HD 5870 1GB GFX card. Think that will suffice? Currently I have the settings overclocked. Will that matter?

Are there kill cams? IE seeing the target you destroyed after you destroy it
