PS- with the Bf -110 family, maybe we can hope you include the command "abwehrkreis!" - defensive circe; a manouver so typical of the Zerstoerergruppen.
I remember descriptions of "figure 8" formations used by Sturmoviks as well. Honestly, the greatest enhancement left for Il-2 would be an AI upgrade to allow use of tactics and also more realistic options for retreat (e.g. an option to have AI start fleeing if separated from allied aircraft).

One very simple addition to the AI would be the option of setting "rally points." You click on the command for "set rally point", that brings up the map display and you click on the desired point on the map to set the rally point. You then set the amount of time you want aircraft to loiter over the rally point before they go home or move on to the next waypoint in the mission.

Damaged aircraft, or aircraft which are low on fuel, will head to a rally point first if it's on the way home.

Mission builders could also set rally points using the FMB, which would work as described above.

I'd settle for an AI that doesn't want to keep formation at all cost, even if their path to their spot goes through you.

Attention of Bf-110 drivers.
Orel War server has at least one map with Bf-110 C4/C4B/E2.
See Operation Barbarossa:

At last Bf-110 virtual pilots can fly in early WWII scenarios without "cheating" on 110G2 model.
Sehr Gut !

This maneuver was also known as a "Lufbery Circle" or "Defensive Circle" and was commonly used by pilots of slower and less-maneuverable fighters when attacked by superior aircraft.

During WW2, defensive circles were used by RAF Defiants attacked by Bf-109 during the Battle of Britain, P-40/Kittyhawks attacked by Bf-109s during the North Africa campaign, and by F4F attacked by Zeroes during the early phases of the Pacific War (until USN pilots discovered the vastly superior "Thatch Weave"/"Beam Defense" tactic).

The problem is that IL2 currently doesn't allow you to order AI planes to perform tactics based on section/rotte, flight/kette, or squadron.

I'd be happy if you could just command your wingman to take over the lead, or act as bait for a simple "drag and bag" 2 vs. 1 set-up.

G2 became ABSOLUTELY useless :it flies as superheavy bomber -hard to take off even empty, no maneuroablity. and no adequate bombs load. So it is not bomber and it is not fighter. Even as ground attack it is not adequate as explodes after first hit. Now i can not outrun heavy planes like il2,or light bombers.
