What we didn't want to hear
Ok, so we got the news that we didn't want to hear, but at least Luthier has had the balls to front up and tell us.
Now at least we know that the series will follow the earlier series in that sequels will merge with the previous as in FB,AEP,Pacific Fighters. This information means that there will be more planes, maps and hopefully the graphic improvements in the way of fm, dm etc. Thanks Luthier, now this should bring closure to a lot of moans and speculation that we had. Now we know where the series is headed provided that the production survives and that will depend largely on us. We either support the team or we don't and that will determine the end result. Thinking back to the earlier series there were the same sort of moans and speculation but look how that turned out, still the best flight sim produced over the last 10 years (yeh ok, with the help of some mods, but still the best and still going strong). When and if the development team allow external content to be added we will probably see the true successor to the early Il2 rise. I must admit that some of the early mod content in the original series left a lot to be desired but it has kept the whole Sturmovik Series at the top of the tree bar none. The only thing I would like to see addressed in the sequel is a more user friendly QMB as in the early series.

The developer is planning for a future for this sim. It business model looks like it will be similar to the first IL2 series.
It all looks good to me! I skipped the first 3 years of the original IL2 because it wouldn't run on my system at the time. I'm sure a lot of people were in a similar situation to me at the time. Given half a chance the new series will be a worthy successor. In the mean time it's still great to get onto a multiplayer server with teamspeak and just go for it! Tactics and Team work ensure the same result. It will be even better once some of the Flight model/AI issues are sorted! Cheers! |

I don't agree with the Il2 co paration. Everyone was impressed with the il2 from the start, and most could play it on lower settings.

My computer at the time ran most other sims - Janes WWII Fighters, Longbow, Comanche EF2000 etc, at full settings no problems. Just running the original IL2 on the lowest setting was a slide show, and it looked like crap on low settings. It wasn't until Pacific Fighters came around that I looked at the series again with a substantially more powerful PC that I actually got back into the series. At least on my mid range PC today I can run COD at medium to high and have a hoot on online. Performance on my mid range system is OK. I won't even think of an upgrade until the optimising completed. Developers do your stuff. |

True. My video card with 4MB vram (really!) just wasn't up to spec. Think the minimum recommended back then was a massive 16MB!!

.
Sorry, but I had never any problems to run any of the IL2 original to the IL2 1946 with the same pc and I have never know anyone in my friend that had any problem with it. Lock on yes IL2 no! Only with COD did some stutter appear with a new and more formidable pc. But this is the consequence to a new a way of codding of the environment by the development team. Beautiful but heavy and complicated. |
