Great Game Shame About Lack Of Development
Firstly Congrats on making a fun enjoyable game, I was a bit put back at first when i heard BOP was not going to be a "total" sim and contained certain "arcade" qualities. But, on buying it and playing it I found that the game was very fun in 3rd person view.
As i ventured deeper into the game I felt that there wasn't much flow in the story and it felt like a collection of single missions, but it wasn't too much of a down point. Obviously after paying £30.00 for the game I was saddened to see that it was left feeling unfinished. Especially in multiplayer, In comparison to the IL2 series of previous years. Firstly, I thought the Aircraft list was way to small, the one thing that we loved the most about IL2 was the variety of choice in aircraft. I really enjoyed the fact that the Blenheim was included, but with no heavier British Bombers it just didn't feel right and took a lot of enjoyment out of it. We have B17 and He 111 and Russian Twin engine but what about the Lancaster, the Wellington, the B24, B25 the list is quite long. I'm Sure that 90% of ppl would have loved to have the Lancaster in game, even if it had only one single mission or even only flyable for multiplayer. Second, Items of factual historic importance SHOULD NOT have been changed (i.e. paint schemes and weapons set, namely the Spit Mk II) to try to balance out the Multiplayer gaming experience. Why have the option of a year selection???? Doesn't really matter when aircraft are over or underrated to give balance any way. Third, The fact that you have to keep reconnecting to your party EVERY time you finish an online game is just nauseating. Multiplayer has some serious issues that need correcting, like the Spawning on the same spot as other players, just a schoolboy error that it wasn't corrected from the Beta stage. The point system for ground attack seems over complex. 1 Star = 1 Ground kill, would be simpler. To avoid your opponent gaining points from shooting you down all you have to is when your plane is shot up real bad dive into the ground and start afresh with a new plane and they get no points, plus you get no points from hitting another plane with a rocket or bomb either. Forth, Graphically the game is very impressive but there are some issues that I and I know for sure many others would love to see changed. There is no difference in graphics between a 50Kg bomb explosion and a 2000lb bomb explosion, the difference is based on point damage which is all good only it looks poop, when you have beasted out a 70 strike mission onslaught to get the B17 with 2000 pounders what you wanna see is a nice big bang and mushroom cloud not the same 50kg poof. Although I have to say the Debris in the explosion looks stunning. Finally, the damage control or damage system that controls how and when you crash needs to allow crash landings without exploding...please. So yeah I'm really enjoying the game but there is a lot of things needed to fix this to make it work. These things will definitely turn away the "arcadey" types and if ignored may result in the "simmer" types being the only ones who are willing to endure and still play, this too might not last all that long if untreated. So considering that the simmers, maybe, already feel a little sold out with the dilution of realism that this game could have had and, was asked for by them, a healthy revamp should be in order to bring it to ppls wishes. After all if we are expected to buy the download content we WILL expect it to contain what we want, especially when most of it should have been solved and paid for buying the game. Hopefully this will be seen as constructive, and being one of the simmers I want to keep seeing this game get better and better , more added content and its flaws solved and its community grow.
