Hi Pucara, could you tell me exactly what these are for? Are they custom built campaigns?

They are custom built campaigns. They are comercia Add-Ons, so the company (WWIIES) charges a fee for the whole package. There are several companies/individuals selling "Add-Ons" for IL-2 Sturmovik.
Stalingrad has something like 600 missions and Pacific over 300 missions. They both offer a free demo, so you can decide on the quality of their product. |

It might have been a good idea to get a native English speaking person to check the mission briefings before charging money for this. Sorry.

True.
You do have a good point about checking their work. This is not the first nor will it be the last add on that has the English translations fowled. Most of the developers in the past, have made corrections once the errors have been identified. They are from Spain so e-mail them at soporte@wwiies.com . I have purchased a lot of pay for add ons. Most were in German. So if the errors are in Spanish. I can at least muddle my way through it.

Well here is a briefing from a demo mission (Henderson field).
Name Mission 3 Short 08/24/1942 - "Henderson Field Attack" Description Guadalcanal, August 24th, 1942 Ryujo "Henderson Field Attack" Time: 12:20 Weather: Bueno Ceiling: 1100 m ETA: 44 minutos Altitude: 2743 m. FRONT REPORT On the early morning of August 9th, the naval force headed by Mikawa has taken by surprise by the American destroyers and cruisers nearby Savo Island. Luckily our vessels have not been detected and were able to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. We have not lost a single ship in Savo Island battle, while the americans have lost 5 cruisers and 2 heavily damaged destroyers. The US Navy has withdrawn from the Savo Island area, after their defeat. However, Gavutu and Tanambogo are in american hands and we have also lost the airbase at Guadalcanal.\n\nThe americans are sending recon patrols across Guadalcanal. We have aniquilated one of such patrols west of the airbase. The americans withdrew and have setup defensive positions. The fight lasted all night long, but at the end our troops won the battle. Still an american patrol have taken our position at Koli Point. On August 19th, the Marines launched an attack west of their defensive perimeter, along the coast, while another Marines Company went across the jungle and launched an attack on the south flank of our troops. A third Marines Company landed west of Kokumbona cutting off the withdraw route. The americans won the battle of Matanikau. On August 20th, Col Kiyono Ichiki on command of 900 men reach the american lines from the east and launch a fierce attack. Not being able to overrun the american positions, he attempted to outflank the americans by the south, but again he failed. The battle was intense and lasted for hours. Even Col Ichiki died in combat. On August 21st, the american troops in Guadalcanal overran our positions in the battle of Tenaru. We lost over 800 troops. Currently we have landed about 1500 reinforcement troops neaby Cape Esparance. ORDERS - B5N2 bombers will attack Henderson Field. Escort them all the way to the target and back. I wouldn't say it's that bad (seen worse), maybe strange sentences and words now and then... but small details such as "bueno" and "minutos" might bug some people ... kind of unnecessary sloppy mistakes. ESPECIALLY on demo missions Noticeble though is that the "briefing" is very long, but it is only the last sentence that has really something to do with the actual mission. The balance between background info and actual mission briefing could (at least is this case) be a lot better. Now I haven't tried the mission itself, and it is of course the actual mission design that counts, but when you pay for something that can be downloaded for free (loads of really good missions for example at mission4today) , you really expect a top job (including briefings) |
