Retrieve Lost save

If one mistakenly lost his saved game by saving a new game over it, knowing that the auto save no longer holds the old saved game , can this saved game be retrieved???

I'm pretty sure there's no buit-in way to do this. If you have seperate drive back-up, obviously that's where to go.

I'm assuming that you're not using the rotating quick save slots and are using manual, named saves instead? The quick save slots (3 total) would allow you to go back pretty easily.
