Default Defeated!

So much for feeling cocky. The game can definitely get challenging. Got crushed at "Back to Derenhalle" in human campaign. Was playing hard level "iron man" (i.e. I don't get any losses back).
Very happen to be beaten (well not incredibly ) because I do like a challenge!
Going to give humans a rest now and try one of the other campaigns.
Very glad to see this can get hard.

Yup, same here. I had to restart mission, I don't want to spoil anything to newbie players, but it surely gets tricky. Good ol' spirit of Fantasy General, I can feel it in the air

I've been defeated quite a few times due to commander dying, I wish he would just be "incapacitated for the rest of the mission" like the other heroes.

Default Keeping Hero ALive

Yeah I've started getting very careful with him and give him a lot of defensive bonuses. In fact emphasising those a bit more for my units in general to survive.
I am finding a prudent advance well supported with archers with no one running ahead is working pretty well.
Bit hazy on when my archers support though. Starting to get impression they don't if they fired that turn. Anyone seen that?
Also countercharge didn't seem to do anything

IS countercharge is a "power" that has to be activated at the cost of a foregone attack?

Default Countercharge and "return scenario"

Lost again to the return to D. scenario Tough. Though played better. Gradually learning subtleties of game. Just discovered the air units will fight support if a friendly unit under them is attacked.
The countercharge activates at cost of attack that turn but good if you except to be attacked at the end of a move where you could reach anyone.

Is there an online manual available so that I can be prepared when I get the full game?

The manual is included in the full version of the game. It's in pdf on the CD. It can't be found online.
