Default Draw distance

G'day,

I am looking to restart with IL2, and last left off at 4.12. At that time non-map-terrain items, i.e. all objects appeared to have a maximum draw distance of about 7km, whether giant battleships or small tanks.

Was this issue ever resolved, particularly for those running bombing campaigns?

regards

If memory serves this is map-dependent on object-pop-in distance.

Likely how the map is rendered.

Nothing would please me more than to incresase the distance on all the maps to about 15km (object pop-in distance and mip-map rendering).

The limitations were quite acute attacking ships with level bombers in harbours. I can remember having to navigate on a piece of textured map terrain or follow a waypoint as the ships could not be seen at all through your magnifying Bombsight until you hit the magic 7km when it completely filled it and it would not even all fit in the sight. At 7km pretty much too late then to make other than fine adjustments .

Thankyou for the link. That mirrors my experience on the newer maps. The problem of column and object visibilty then remained. There was some improvement on certain kinds of terrain draw distances on some maps.
