My only concern......

Without spoiling the plot, how did they manage to get from where they were flying at the start to where they ended up? Can the fuel tanks take them that far.... how would you not notice?

The short film is not bad but I see two "little" problems.

1. From the English Channel to Ireland in 8 minutes, a true record

2. I don´t belive as the Messerschmitt is shoot down; the planes without the one of the wings, the belly landing is impossible.

As I said over on BoS forum it's a really nice piece of work. Reading the above comments I'd only add that as it's a short film I think poetic licence should be given. The point at the end is to show how many were interned under laws of neutrality in Ireland. How they got there is partially inconsequential in so much as they did with the subsequent consequences. I seen much worse abuses of historical fact not mentioning any particular films U571.
And they did get lost sometimes, ask the FW190 pilot who landed in Wales thinking it was France!!
I just hope the writer and director go on to produce more.

Gilly, I assume you have seen A Lonely Sky, by the same guy (Nick Ryan).

I actually like this one more than The German.

again hollywood F's it up...that is the bell x-1 which was flown by chuck yeager... & chuck's alive, i have met him...lol .it never crashed before breaking the sound barrier...1 model had a bad landing trying to breaking mach2 but it wasnt THAT bad of a wreck. this is a remake of an old flick i watched when i was a kid...the name escapes me but i do remember watching it....actually think it started with a pilot who broke the barrier but couldnt recover..??? (in the movie anyways ). in it... there WERE flights with other ac trying to break the sound barrier where compressibility and the reversal of flight controls were discovered ( giving weight to the benefits of swept wing and delta wing designs ) but not in an x-1. still could be a decent and worthwhile flick to watch....just dont walk away believing you saw a historically rendition of true facts.

...A total of three X-1s were made, but by far the most famous was the X-1-1 (#46-062), which was used in the first supersonic flight. Captain Yeager, who named the X-1-1 "Glamorous Glennis" after his wife, piloted it to its top speed, Mach 1.45. Another USAF pilot, Lt. Col. Frank Everest, Jr., took the X-1-1 to its highest altitude of 71,902 feet. Ten different pilots flew the Bell X-1-1 on a total of 82 flights before the plane was retired on May 12, 1950

for more on the x-1...

I don't believe it's meant to be factual. I think it's more of a metaphor for risking everything to be something. Besides... that's not really Hollywood per se. That's an independent short film.

I'm guessing the movie you're referencing is The Right Stuff, which is a good flick and an absolutely excellent book.

But I must pay homage to this man. Who really should have broken mach 1 first.
The incredible Captain Eric Brown

I remember as a kid, watching that Quantum leap episode when Sam took an X-1 pilots place. It was my favourite episode. allthough Ive got a feeling if I watched it again now, i'd think it was pants. Actually at least he was wearing pants in that one and not a dress, I hated those episodes even then.
