Launcher crashes using SweetFX
Hi Guys,
I suffered along with many of you after the Windows Updates in early March. I've backed out the KB2670838 and IE 10 updates and things improved but I still get launcher.exe crashes while SweetFX is in the game directory. Apparently there's a compatibility issue now with SweetFX and Win 7 x64. I had SweetFX running fine in the game before the March windows updates. Has anyone been sucessful in using SweetFX in the game since the Windows updates in March? If so, can you please tell me what you did to get SweetFX working without crashing the game? Thanks, Smilinjack |

I have the same problems. The next I will try is to uninstall IE 10 and I hope this will help me. I will tell you the result tomorrow...

Diebels,
MS Update KB2670838 is implemented regardless of IE 10 install. In fact, if you install the IE 10 windows update, KB2670838 also installs. KB2670838 apparently is a MS DX "fix" that causes the compatibility problem with SweetFX and consequently the launcher crashes in COD. I had to remove SweetFX from COD to solve the launcher crashes. SweetFX needs to be updated somehow to be compatible with the updated DX. If you getting launcher crashes with the MS updates installed and SweetFX in the game, either uninstall IE 10 and/or KB2670838 or remove SweetFX from the game. Either action will solve the launcher crashes. However, a new MS update to the DX installer is on the horizon. That update will require that the fix applied by KB2670838 be installed. So, removing KB2670838 now is a temporary solution. Hope that helps. If you get SweetFX to run with KB2670838 installed, please let me know. Regards, Smilinjack Edit: Diebels, do you run with an AMD(ATI) video card? Last edited by Smilinjack; 03-23-2013 at 10:31 PM. |

At first I have a AMD (ATI)Radeon 6970 and SweetFX.
I will not more missing SweetFX. So I have uninstall the update KB2670838 and the complete IE10 (I´m using FireFox). After restart I´m flying for 1 hour or more without a crash. My system: AMD FX 6200/ 8 GB RAM /ATI 6970/Windows 7 64bit Greetz Diebels |

So that's why I've been having the crashes. Thanks for the tip. Hope a fix comes along, as it's hard to live without SweetFX now.
Edit: A search reveals version 1.4 came out less than a week ago. May be worth testing. http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/..._download.html Last edited by Feathered_IV; 03-25-2013 at 10:20 AM. |

I've uninstalled KB2670838 (when that's done it takes IE 10 with it..reverting back to IE 9).
A search for KB2670838 using Google reveals numerous problems encountered in both laptops and pc's after applying the update. MS thought initially that the problems were primarily in laptops running "hybrid" graphics, i.e., Intel processors and ATI graphic cards. When the PC community, including PC makers jumped on them, MS increased the scope of the problem to include PC's but I have not seen the full definition of the problem posted anywhere. May have something to do with DX 11.1 which was included in the KB267 update. Anyhow, I have uninstalled KB2670838 and will leave it off my machine until MS sorts out the problem(s). I reinstalled SweetFX 1.3 and all is well. ROF was also clobbered by the update to the point that it CTD with SweetFX installed. With the update removed, ROF runs fine with SweetFX installed. MS has changed the designation of KB2670838 from "Important" to "Optional" in windows update. Just the same, make sure you don't apply the update without reading the KB first to see if the problems have been corrected. SweetFX 1.4 does not contain any "fix" for this, at least that I can tell. You should be able to upgrade to V1.4 if you keep KB2670838 off your rigs. |

I searched for the KB2670838 file, but didn't find it. What are the steps to finding and uninstalling it?
Thanks, binky9
