Default Operation Sealion - My hopes

Would love to see a campaign (obviously non-historic) in the game for this cancelled operation. Or if not at least some objects in the FMB to make ourselves. Barges , landing craft, etc...

I've got a pretty good hunch Maddox might include those barges. This might mean that somebody has to build said campaign by him or herself though.

To make this work well the ship AI would have to be much improved from IL-2. At the moment ships do not manouvre properly and do not take correct avoiding action to navigate around obstructions or sinking ships. In the mission builder you need to be able to plot courses for groups of ships not have to mark every individual vessel. The AI would have to take care of position keeping issues, as the aircraft do now.

The AA defence of each fleet needs to respond properly to threats, with warships turning to direct their field of fire towards the incoming aircraft, then speeding up to regain their station when the threat diminishes.

Defending warships might start in anti-submarine screen positions, but in response to air attack close in to provide the AA screen. Ships should respond to torpedo threats to turn to avoid, and also in response to bomber attacks might turn to evade.

Can barrage balloons be attached to ships?

Most of these features are needed in order to model the historical actions over the channel at the start of BoB. Much the same features can be used to create Dunkirk scenarios -- the true start of BoB.

There was a mod for one of the Close Combat games per Operation Sea Lion, it was called Operation Beached Whale.

To be quite frank, I suspect that like IL-2 SOW is designed with future systems in mind, thus any intensive objects-activity mission will tax systems that are in use after release. Unless the mission is designed by splitting the operation into descrete componets. Or the BOB campaign has resolved the issues per high intensity engagement by resulting in the Luftwaffe achieving Air Superiority over the RAF and nuetralizing the Royal Navy.

SOW:BOB will have:
- fully functional military vehicles (suspension, weapons and AI)
- improvements to ship damage models
- early development shots showed "beachhead defense" retrofits of the Lysander with 20mm cannon or bomblets

So it is certainly possible in an expansion...
