Reserve 100% or higher power for just a few seconds when you really need it. Anyhow, if you're flying the A6M2 or the Ki-43 you don't want to be flying too fast since those are pure maneuver fighters. Run your "prop pitch" levels at 90%, keep the rads partially open and don't worry about it too much. The worst offender is the Ki-61 but even that is manageable with a slightly reduced prop pitch/engine RPM.

Seconding the suggestion to fly with radiators at least partially open most of the time. By now it's sufficiently instinctive that I forgot to mention it.
Something else to consider is that many Japanese campaigns are fought on tropical maps. Any plane will overheat in those conditions. |
