Game hangs during 'loading actors'?

I have and own the GamersGate download USA version. Haven't played in over 1 years or so and decided to start the game up again.

I can load any older previous save game and play the game fine, but as soon as I try to move anywhere i.e. enter a new map area or try to load any new save game, 7.62 totally freezes up during the 'loading actors' stage?

Only mod I have installed is the Unofficial patch. I tried installing the latest 1.06 which seems to install fine but the game still hangs.

Vista64 here btw.
