Default Use radio-beacons for instrument approach and landing

Sample .mis file shows how Radio Beacons must be set up to blindly land He-111 and Br-20 which were historically equipped with necessary instruments.

In brief: add an AI-antiair object with PowerON script in properties, set radius to include both power generator and radio beacon / antenna, set the above AI object as a target for generator in generator properties. Thus the AI object will get power from the generator and transfer it to radio beacon and other equipment if any.

LBA antenna, radio beacons and inner and outer markers are in the list of working equipment (see mission text). More info in Russian http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/showthrea...=1#post1768810

Pay attention to how equipment is placed in the mission.
On a round island radio beacons are set with navigational frequencies of 301-303 and 310. They can be used by Br-20 (set keyboard commands for nav. frequency change in game settings). Blind landing system is set on an airfield which can be used by He-111. Change Br-20 to He-111 in the mission to test it.

are you really saying its possible to make landings with IFR now?
thats really neat,....but its a shame that once again one has to have programing skills to achieve that.
why cant they implement it the way it was in il2 1946 4.10 patch with the lorenz beacon and the allied bllind landing system.

No, i did not. All the info comes from sukhoi.ru (link above). There may be mistakes.

They say also that naryv mentioned that other airfield equipment will work one day also. Now it may work partially, needs more testing. E.g. they say that audio-tube (SoundLocator?) works with baseAntiAir.cpp already now.

Regarding blind landing I have no idea what were possibilities in that time. Maybe only direction is provided but not altitude. I am not an expert in bombers or IFR. I would start with searching for IRL instructions on radio beacon approaches for Br-20 and LBA antenna approaches for He-111.

This is a mission file, not script file. No programming involved only mouse clicks in FMB.

I am amazed with span, detail and ambitions of the project. It is a pity it will take much more time to finish all these details.

PS. Here is a test mission where Charger from sukhoi.ru tests various equipment. Some not set up 100% correct you can join the tests and share findings.

Save as .mis file, edit and run from FMB

Fidle with this matter in FMB ("Final" version).

Objects available:

Generic Long Range Mast Antenna (?)
Radio NDB Beacon Antenna (non directional beacon)
SBA Hat Antenna - (Standard Beam Approach) for blinding landing
Outer Marker - for blinding landing
Inner Marker - for blinding landing

SBA HAT antenna need IA object Anti.Air with Power.ON script and a associated power generator to work (target Anti.Air with generator "set" button).

EDIT - Update: Generic Long Range Mast Antenna, Radio NDB Beacon Antenna, Inner/Outer Marker antenna (passive devices that respond to aircraft signal?) work without SBA Hat Antenna presence, and all d'ont need power - AI+Genetaror .

Antenna frequency for default are 300 MHZ (adjustable from 200 up to 600)
Outer/Inner Marker default at 380 MHZ

Frequency selectable on planes.
Primary Navigation Frequency = NDB
Secondary Navigation Frequency = Blinding Landing
Radio Transceiver Frequency = ???

Planes able to pick antenna signal:

Br.20 - Instrument with vertical needle in upper/left side of instrument panel.
Ju-88 - P-S needle in Magnetic Compass and AFN-1 instrument *
He-111 - P-S needle in Magnetic Compass and AFN-1 instrument *
Ju-87 - AFN-2 instrument * - Autopilot Course (No Mode 22) - Able to select Secondary Nav. Frequency (Blinding Landing)
Bf-110C4/7 - AFN-2 instrument * - Autopilot Course (No Mode 22) - Not able to select frequency - detect SBA signal if transmit at 300 MHZ.

*AFN-1/2 instrument seems bugged to track NDB signal in homing mode.
Horizontal needle detect signal intensity as expected, but vertical needle
swing crazy left/right. EDIT -See bellow.

The major drawback of AFN-1/2 in blinding landing mode is that SBA signal is only detected between Outer and Inner Marker, around 2 Km of runway, this and lack of audible Morse code make this almost useless... EDIT -See bellow.

Is possibly that this AFN-1/2 properly work with third autopilot mode (R22)...??? EDIT -See bellow.

I am not used to CloD autopilot.

Test, with SBA, Outer and Inner antennas placed per IL-2 1946 4.10 readme, due lack of information on how should by in CloD:

Distances for placement measured in FMB with Airport runway object (adjustable from 300 to 10.000 meters - at least).

SBA Hat signal is only detected around by AFN-1/2 ~2 KM from the beginning of the runway. EDIT -See bellow.

Notice - In above picture the SBA HAT signal are not detect at 3KM because the plane is bellow 300 meters of altitude.

SBA Hat tuned at 300 MHZ - to allow test with Bf-110 too since in this aircraft is not possible change frequency.

Outer Marker is only detected if overflown at around 300 mts (~1000 foot) of altitude (350 dont work).
Inner Marker is only detected if overflown at around 200 mts (~660 foot) of altitude (250 dont work).

Outer/Iner Marker indicator lamp apparently dont work in Br.20M (Navigator cockpit, Impeller activated)...

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/attachm...0&d=1264172202
Picture from "Storm of War" development.

Curiosity: Br.20M is only plane that are possible select "Radio Transceiver Frequency" and in navigator cockpit has one instrument associated with this frequency is labeled "Push to Talk"...
What will they planned whit it?

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2176/transciever.jpg

Another thing is that autopilot seems work in Br.20 - at least they make plane start roll..., but no messages are show indicating adjustments/engage.

Probable the culprit for this is:

Apparently, yes.

See what happen with control column when Autopilot mode 22 is selected (He-111) with AFN-1/2 tuned to SBA Hat Antenna.

The movement is progressive, not show in this .GIF.

EDIT - This control column movement dont have relation with Lorenz, is for level bombing, to acelerate the plane (He.111, JU-8.

Not sure, but I seemed to hear a continuous mute tone, at one of the landings ...

EUREKA!

Is just matter of keeping the "Course Autopilot Preset" equaled with "Directional Gyro" reading, using "Course Autopilot Adjust", so the AFN-1 needle is ably to track SBA Hat Antenna signal correctly.

If there is much variation between the two instruments, the AFN-1 needle goes "crazy".

Is not need engage Autopilot Mode 22 (probable make a automated "glide path"... dont know...), adjust "Course Autopilot Preset" to allow proper operation of AFN-1.

Lorenz in CloD is more "sophisticated" than in IL-2.

End of "night adventures", no more night in CloD... ?

EDIT - False alarm. With TF patch things goes dark after 1:30.
