[QUOTE=dkwookie;156821]From the film Men Of Yamato. The big battleship gets a pummelling. Notice when the main turret fires at the incoming aircraft. The Yamato had anti aircraft shells for its main guns. They were designed to explode in mid air with large shrapnel. This is the only ship I have heard of using this kind of round. In reality it was not very effective but you can see it being used here and in the film it takes out a couple of incoming planes:

my grandads ship had 15 inch guns firing shells weighing a ton,i think the yamato had 18 inch guns.end of an era for battleships but they dont half look impressive

Yeah 18 inch guns on Yamato, biggest guns ever mounted on a ship. The main guns
were so powerful that the anti aircraft turrets adjacent had to be cleared during firing otherwise the shock waves would kill the crew.

This is a scene from the movie "The Winter War", that shows the fighting side of the Finn's during '39. It's the first opening battle, and has some I-16s, and what I think is supposed to be a Po-2 but instead it's a monoplane. (You can watch the whole movie on YouTube in 19 segments.)

Great video's Bobby! Too bad though, that the engines of the Triplanes in the first one weren't reproduction Oberursel rotary engines. They'd have a lot more comparable sound to that of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Great site with some of the clearest gun camera footage i have ever seen. Some pretty dramatic straffing runs ( one where the pilot is dangerously close to eating earth ). and below are other war videos... enjoy.

Default Hitler's coal powered jet...yes for real!!

with the loss of petro the germans experimented with alternate forms of fuel...and devised a jet engine that ran off of coal. check it out!
