Stuck early on

I'm in a puzzle, a dream sequence, where you are in a room and must unlock a door with several latches quite fast before water rushes in and kills you. One of the latches breaks off every time. I unlock them all before the water hits me, and I still die. How do I get the door open?

I spent a good deal of time trying to figure that one out too ...

you need to pull off the broken handle (in the past), and quickly run back to the door which bursts open & floods the compartment, and use it to secure that door ......
- this will prevent the incident from happening altogether ... hence saving the day ... + your sanity!!!
