Default I rule the skys - now what do i do ?

I'm up to year 9 - my ship now has a hull of 430 (first was 356) though this hull has no cladding (i saw a really nice hull that was 600 and 10 cladding but it was 100K and I only had 50K.

Anyways - I can now blow dominators from the sky. I have no fear. I rule the sky (or space as it may be). I'm a cadet! Have I won? Is the game over ?

Now you need to do Dominator research at science stations. Basically you kill Doms, pick up their stuff and 'sell' it at the science stations to complete the research on three seperate Dominator leaders. This will require a fair bit more Dominator slaying. Your goal here is to defeat the three bosses in the game.

Can't I just blow them from the sky ?

Btw it seems that if i do research at one station it is not carried over to another

From memory you don't HAVE to do the research, but it helps to defeat the bosses. There are three of them: Blazer, Keller and Terron. Keller appears out of black holes - you can fight him in hyperspace (this is harder if you haven't done the research - you've been warned). The other two are in particular systems. If you want to win the game, you need to attack Dominator-controlled systems in search of Terron and Blazer.

Oh, and the research does carry over, but the stuff you bring only lasts a little while. You will need to bring lots of Dom stuff to get the research going at full speed.

Selling stuff to the research stations is also the main way to make money in mid/late game. Assuming you can kill doms without getting trashed too badly, it is also far more profitable than trading or doing missions.

As I understand it, doing research is mandatory. You will NEVER be able to defeat Terron or Keller just by firing guns at them. They do incredible damage per volley, have huge droids, and nobody will help you fight them.
I'm pretty sure that research progress is global, its just that by the time you visit another station they've already used up all the material you gave them for research. You can test this if you like; im not sure about this.
By the way, I'm pretty sure that 450 hull isn't enough to take on a whole fleet of dominators. The best stats are 800+ hull, 50%+ shield, 60+ droid, 15+ cladding and full Atomic Vision/Turbogravir guns - this setup will ensure that you really do rule the ... erm... sky. Hint: If you have Reboot, you can get the unique ships from the Military, Science and Pirate bases. The best ship in the game, IMO, is the pirate unique ship - 1100 ideal hull, +150 speed, gives bonuses to energy, splinter and missile weapons (+15, +30, +20 respectively). The requirements are: a) Pirate title, Ace ranking, eliminate 100 transport and diplomatic ships. o.O It's hard.

As time progresses in the game, the Dom weapons and resistances will become more powerful and their ships faster. They will own you if you aren't prepared.

There are three unique ships. They all cost 1M creds. The Science station unique has a 500 Dom kill requirement. It is a 1000 hull, +300 speed, +20 jump, +1000 radar, -5 armor. It starts with 15 armor (20-5) and the hull can be upgraded, another 1.2M creds to 22 armor.


The Military station unique has a 50 Pirate requirement. Anyone know the stats of the this unique?

The Military unique ship is a 1200 hull, +15 armor (hit points blocked), +10 Armor, +20 Droid. The hull can be upgraded, another 1.2M creds to 21 armor (random max number of upgrade points determined at game start?).
