Default Hmm.. Megatexture anyone?!!

Anyone noticed the

MegaTexture=0

setting from the conf.ini file?

It very much looks like Carmack's megatexture technology. Wonder what's up with it..

Anyone willing to test it (my laptop's specs are too low to try anything, IL2 CoD is running extremely poor even on lowest settings)?

megatexture technology is VERY useful, allowing a perfect scaling of the graphic engine to machine's capabilities.

maybe they just haven't finished it yet, as with the rest of the game..

CTD also on graphics cards with over 1GB of VRAM, so definitely a feature for the future?

Very interesting, MegaTexture employs a single large texture space for static terrain. The texture is stored on removable media or the hard drive and streamed as needed, allowing large amounts of detail and variation over a large area with comparatively little RAM usage.

I believe this is similar texturing technique that Outerra (3D planetary engine for seamless planet rendering) uses. Just think of the possibilities?
