Need serious help with star wolves 3.
So a friend of mine got me this game, and I've been trying to play it for the last few days. And... I can't. Not because of any technical problem, though.
Simply because my fighters/mothership blow up the second they're shot. I know I'm not going into 'story locked' areas, I'm careful to follow the plot- and yet half the time my ships utterly ignore my orders, and the other half of the time they take amazing amounts of damage without dealing -any- in return. Even on easy, I lost Ternie the first mission after I got her. It's at the point where I can't launch fighters, because no one will survive a single fighter action. Am I doing something -seriously- wrong, or what? |

Where are you in the game exactly? Right after you get ternie in the mastiff? I don't remember there being a lot of pirates there though maybe I'm wrong.

That is strange.
But firstly have you your ships fully equiped ? like some guns best some lasers and any antimissile defence ? After you will have repainted main ship is the best way go to Vaudille and get two hiden caches there. as at way there you will have maybe problem with pirates only in Prien. Use the stuff or sell them and try go to for another cache. If you not get any good shileds and repair module for main ship and you have enough cash about 1 million go to Charon as there you can best stuffs for resonable price (like Kali for FTU price + 10 % markup) since at Smugglers base is markup 50 %. (In hard Kali Smugler base price is 900k, in Charon you can buy Kali for 560k). Loot some pirates to get xp to be boths pilots to be able to fly 3rd. generations ships and (as best buy for them 2 Tigers). Last edited by Hal2003; 02-04-2013 at 09:09 AM. |

It's not that the mothership blows up so quickly, I THINK that I can handle by trying to keep it out of the fighting. It's that my -fighters- blow up in -seconds.- I'll launch myself and ternie, and as I'm setting them as a squad, an enemy shoots and ternie's on fire. I go to try and dock myself because it's clear I'm way out of my league, and -I'm- on fire- then game over.
Add to that the fact that half the time I'll order fighters to attack a target and they'll just sit there, or bonk into the mothership as if they've no idea what this big chunk of metal is or how to get around it... it's leading to very short fights. Also, since I noted it. How the -HELL- do you earn cash? If I go outside the 'story' missions, I get shredded by 'story protecting' superweapons. If I follow the story, I don't earn much money... It's all right. Happens all the time. Money is a precious resource. Try to buy good stuff. ()
Also if pirates become a problem try to avoid them. |

Sadly the story-required pirates are hard to avoid. For instance. The mission after you jump to Elio. Even using 2nd grade fighters and weapons, I still blow up the second I try to defend the freighters. It's as if every enemy within miles goes, "I MUST SHOOT THIS GUY." And somehow, despite having obtained hammerheads armed with tetsubos and full compliments of missiles, I STILL get maybe one, two kills.

Not use missiles as you pilot not have enough perks to be effective with missiles, use both fighers you have, if your pilot is missile specialist give him some rapid weapon and Ternie is laser specialist, give her some laser. And keep you base close to fighters as they will be able to protect her.
After you will heave ship repainted go to caches as i mentioned, as next mission will be more harder. |

Okay, there is something -wrong.- I even broke down and edited my skillpoints with an outside client. Even with the first two tiers completely filled for both ternie and the player char, we still die in a few moments. It's as if we got the NPC guns, and they got the player ones...

i would say this the hardest part of the game especially if you reject heretic. this mean your cannot heal mothership hull until you dock in elio.
1st encounter : help phantom (set in option fighters do not auto launch upon enter zone) 2nd : upon enter hephateus (move fast to the cloud) 3rd : after exit the gun ring (reload if your MS have less than 60% hp after this fight) 4th : while escort hander son (don't have to save everybody, just save yourself) 5th : any patrol on the way to carl hander and docked. (you can dock while being fired) save your game a lot. manual save too. always keep your fighter docked. launch them when enemy target your mothership but not before the shield is depleted. use any missile you have and team specials. |
