Greetings,
I'm fairly new to IL-2, bought the 1946 flavor off of Steam a good while back, but started a campaign a few months ago. I played a US Army Air Corps pilot starting at Pearl Harbor. I love the game, but the campain was, how shall I say, very repetitive. Of the 40 or so missions, 30-35 were the exact same mission - intercept bombers. It was the same thing every time - take off, intercept the same planes coming from the same direction, shoot some down, then land. The other 5-6 missions in the campaing were escort missions. I'm not complaining, as I'm sure this is historically accurate. I'd like to start another campaign, but would like some suggestions on a personal campaign in which I would fly varying types of missions. I don't really care on which country or aircraft - I'm just looking for a good variety in a campaign. Thank you for any suggestions. -Michael |

I'd strongly suggest going for user made campaigns. There are plenty of pearls around, you'll find some of the best over at www.mission4today.com.

The stock dynamic campaigns that fits that description best are the German bf109 "JABO" fighter bomber campaigns. You get to do a bit of everything, bombing strafing, dogfighting and move airfields regularly. I found the 109 JABO to be the most fun of all the built in campaigns. |

First Id say look at getting DBW. If your an offline player its the single greatest thing to happen to IL2 since the original code was written.
Then get this campaign: http://www.mission4today.com/index.p...details&id=104 Probably the single best campaign I have played for IL2 in 10 years. Really, really awesome and none of the feeling of repetition you speak of. |

The real flavor of this game are in Eastern front missions, and Amagi's Disaster on the Frontiers is the prize winner for DGen semi-dynamic campaigns in this theater.
IceFire has been making campaigns for years, and his latest two, "Dragon Skies" and "Tip of the Spear", are real gems. Last edited by Treetop64; 01-10-2012 at 04:12 AM. |

I like the Russian (originally from Forgotten Battles) fighter career (non-Leningrad), you get a lot of choices of aircraft to fly, and a lot of campaigns in succession, from the invasion to the end of the war.
There's nothing wrong with Leningrad, however the career has only five campaigns in it, which means only five chances to chose planes. The careers that originally came from Forgotten battles are randomly generated as you go, whereas the ones that originally came from Pacific Fighters are all scripted. I prefer the random ones, a lot of people seem to prefer the scripted ones, which as I understand it all the add-on campaigns are. Last edited by Igo kyu; 01-10-2012 at 08:56 PM. |

As Igo kyu points out the downloaded campaigns are generally scripted, your success or failure does not effect later missions. However they are generally historically very accurate.
If you prefer dynamic an alternative is to download Lowengrims dcg campaign generator. ALSO ... one other point about the built in dynamic campaigns new players often miss. When you first start a dgen built in campaign it comes up with a screen listing what aircraft you will use at various dates during your career. Often you can change these defaults and chose between several offered aircraft by using a drop down menu. This choice is made at the start when generating the campaign for the first time. |

Try this http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php IL2 DCG 3rd Party Campaigns How to install 3rd Party Campaigns Lowengrin Monday 28 May 2007 In the 3rd Party Campaigns Download Section of this website, you can find a number of campaigns designed by DCG enthusiasts. Most 3rd Party Campaigns can be installed following these simple instructions. 1. Download the campaign to your computer. 2. Unzip the contents of the download into a new folder within your main IL2DCG installation. (To do this, either create a new folder or make sure your unzip software creates a folder when decompressing the files). 3. If the contents of the download included a folder called DGEN, copy these files over to your game's DGEN folder. Note: be very careful about overwriting files in your DGEN folder as they may prohibit your from starting other DCG or DGEN campaigns. In fact, you may want to make a backup of this folder before adding 3rd Party Campaign files. There may be other files that need to be copied at this time. Consult the readme that accompanies the download for more information. 4. Run IL2DCG. 5. Under Files select Optional 3rd Party Data Folder. Browse to the campaign you wish to start and select the allcampaigns.dcg file to activate it. 6. If you wish to run a Career (DGen Replace Mode) campaign or On-line Campaign (NGen Replace Mode), check these now. If they are checked already, uncheck them and recheck them. At this point, you should be able to run the 3rd Party Campaign just like any "stock" campaign. Please refer to the article on Modes for more information on running DCG in various methods of running DCG campaigns. . Last edited by KG26_Alpha; 01-11-2012 at 02:25 PM. |

Thank you guys for the responses. I've done a bit of looking at the user generated campaigns, but there seems to be alot of modding necessary for those, which I am not comfortable with. I may try to stick with a stock campaign, but I will look for some user created ones that don't require alot of modding.
What is DBW? Again, thank you for your responses. |
