On a serious note, is there any way to reduce the atrocious loading times?

I think loading time are not that bad, if you have decent PC
Also, incoming patch will further tweak loading times a bit.. If your loading times are quite high, try lowering some graphics details. |

For a given savegame the first loading is always longuer than the subsequents.
I did my little benchmarks, and I got 2mn10s for the first, and between 1mn5s et 1mn 30s (depending on the graphic settings) for the subsequents. BTW: I extracted every pak file and made sure the game uses the extracted copies. Questions: 1-Do you consider 2mn and 1mn not that bad? 2-Do you consider a 2Ghz octocore, 7Gb ram, 7200rpm hdd, gfx 8800gtx, decent PC? Side note: Usually seeing something move helps waiting. In my case, there is a pause at ~15% (which takes >50% of the loading time), so the wires don't move there. Silly thing: Do you have a 3d context initialized behind the load screen? 'Coz if you could make a very simple animation (I was thinking about raining corpses with ragdoll effect), it would make loading times...more fun. 10. Do your homework 11. Try to remember where you found this or that letter 12. Eat lunch Last edited by Gniarf; 03-05-2009 at 11:30 AM. |

Solution?
Try creating a new folder "maps" in the Data directory. I'm not sure if this works for NV, too but it did for Overdose.
With Raid 0 I fortunately don't have any problems with loading times. I will count them when I'm back from work. |
