Freight Tycoon on DVD - asking for serial !

I bought Freight Tycoon earlier this year, and was shocked when the game asked me to type in a serial which should be either on the box or in the manual - I found it on neither.

So I contacted the retailer, who said that I got the game by a mistake as it was pulled back from the publisher - you guys (??)..


So until further notice, I haven't done anything about it, and then I came across a heading somewhere that there's come a patch for the game in Vista. I didn't even know there would be problems doing so.

To the point :
Will I be able to play the game if I install the game from the disc and the patch, without typing a serial? If not - what should I do to make it work?
