"In my original review I wrote "Like a good wine, Cliffs of Dover can be played now, and it should get better with age." A year later, I can no longer say that, because so little has been done to improve the game's performance faults, and nothing has been done to add or fix the lack of gameplay content or AI for single player enthusiasts.

Rather, I would now say, you will get your money's worth if you buy it on special (which it frequently is) at a bargain price between 5USD or 10USD. See if it works for you, on your PC.

And if it does, you will then have the money to spend on the Desastersoft campaign download, which adds the game which the developers left out."

My post is true. I copied and pasted it from the review.

BTW, I get CTD every other mission since beta patch, not before. True for some not for others I guess. 60:40 as the poll shows.

Prior to the release of that first sequel to IL2 we had a myriad of issues. I wouldn't remember them, but I do recall there was a great deal of negative sentiment on Ubisoft forums. LOL

Regardless, the sequel turned the tide. We never looked back at the original IL2 1.0 version.

One thing that the devs did, which really cinched it well. They released all the content from the original version of IL2 1.o version within the Forgotten Battles.

The purchasers of Forgotten Battles did not have to go back and buy the IL2 Sturmovik 1.0 version. I know this well, because like many at the time there were some of us who financially felt we needed to support the IL2. Many of us bought extra copies of IL2 at retail prices to support it. I still have those boxes of IL2. LOL

Then the sequel released and those old IL2 1.0 versions were selling for the price of peanuts/worthless.

Anyway, the sequel is a way for the "CURRENT" dev of our favorite sim game to make some money and give us what we want at the same time.
This is the way 1C did it with IL-2..

And this is the way 1C has said the plan on doing it with CoD..

It work well for IL-2 so I don't see any reason why they would change thier way of doing thing..

Long story short

You would be hard pressed to find anyone still playing the orginal 1.0 version of IL-2, and if they are and thus refuse to buy 1946, well that says more about them than it does 1C IMHO

Remember, this game is not allowed not to work in the eyes of some, to say otherwise is near to blasphamy.

Both of you need to wind it down. There is nothing worthy of reporting here.

It appears the performance/stability patch has been relatively successful, as the poll suggests that 95% of those in the poll rarely have a CTD. If thats true, the development should be able to move forward, and concentrate mainly on the game play issues. This is good news as the development would have definitely shut down if it was not successful.

Personally I've never experienced a CTD, but the sim still isn't good enough to keep my interest up. Gameplay issues are now the most critical aspect, and most of these issues must be addressed before the release of the Sequel, or again the development will not survive.

I did not have crashes until the latest patch. unfortunately.

The poll was problematic as its choices were skewed. I had to vote all the time when it was not really accurate because rarely was even less accurate. Some may have had CTD's 50% of the time and voted rarely because all the time and never were less appropriate. But it appears 40% are still getting crashes.

But yes if the stability is truly fixed for most then things could get better.
