Peoples brains are all wired differently. I love classical music with videos of IL-2 but many wouldn't. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think I could concentrate enough with music on in the background but on the other hand while in a fight it may even help...I can see that. Like a drink might help. Alone up in the air I would be paying too much attention to "Mars" The Planets..and would probably get in trouble.

Well I do a start up of my Spitfire. Let her warm up. All things look fine. So far so good, I appear as competent as any one else. I slowly apply throttle to head down the runway but I start drifting right and barely miss the yellow runway marker. I rudder left, but just a bit to sharply causing my left wing to catch the ground and me to cartwheel. I was lucky this time. I took out a vehicle driving along side the runway. Cue laughtrack. After finally making an adequate takeoff I climb to a respectable height. RPMs are good. Temps are fine. I throttle back to about 80%, set my prop pitch to cruise and proceed to look for some huns in the sun. Halfway over the channel I spot them. Cockily I say to myself, "There they are." Small laugh from the laughtrack. I enter the field of combat to see several Ju 87s. "Ahhhhhh perfect. Low and slow." "Ha ha ha ha" from the crowd. Do they know something I don't? I circle behind them to their 4 o'clock position and go in for the kill. The adrenaline is pumping as I start diving toward my prey. Muah ha ha ha ha. They don't see me and I have them in my sites.... except I over persue and miss. Apparently they were much slower than I thought. tee hee from the laugh track. Well I circle around again so as not to lose too much speed. I was going to BnZ, but it would be too risky. As I double back I notice the escorts - 109s of course. Oh S%%T! Against my better judgement I think I can get a volley off on at least one of the 87s so I press onward.. On this pass I manage to hit one of the enemy, but the damage is superficial and I take a few rounds from the rear gunner. Nothing significant, but enough to cause me to swerve and bleed some energy. BAAAAH! Now I have one of the 109s in persuit so I roll onto my back and dive for speed, while pressing the throttle through the gate. I didn't expect to pull away from him, but I thought at least I'd be able to keep a safe distance. I'm gaining good speed and think about gaining some height. He's still about .88kms away. So I climb with speed as my friend, but with my luck I find my friend speed abandons me and the 109 catches me. I'm hoping I have more enegy than him and I can just out climb him until he falls away behind me. Nope. I bleed my energy fast. WTF? I'm panicing now because the 109 isn't showing signs of energy bleed, but I'm shuddering. Bangbangbangbang!!!!, come the ever so familiar sound of rounds striking my plane. The windshield is covered with oil. I've lost my bonnet. and the 109 climbs past me with little effort. I swear I saw him wave as he cruised by me. In frustration and consternation I look at my guages and controls only notice my prop pitch is still in cruise mode. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Cue laugh track. Now whenever I'm ready to enter combat I hear this in the back of my head. Last edited by Robert; 05-05-2012 at 10:04 AM. |
