ah I see, thanks Les! Its not totally eye-catching on first sight, so I must have missed it in the early days or just forgot about it
But you're right, it adds a lot to the atmosphere allthough it is more like a unconcious perception

Regarding the long vertical pictures, have you tried imgur.com?

A majority here alway complains about the dumbed down graphics since the rewrite. I agreed with that in most parts refering to the former game versions.

But these pics now look quite mature. Apart from that cloud shadows and high clouds are back. The canopy reflections are more intense as well I think. The lighting effects during dusk/dawn are fine.
I am wondering what is now still missing compared to the release version? Just out of my head I could only list the following:
- reflections of clouds/planes etc in the water below (which looked gorgeous, but also a bit unrealistic dont you think? at least in this intensity)
- morning fog over the landscape
- small calibre hit decals!!!

Did I miss something? In my opinion the game now looks stunning and overall I'm satisfied graphics-wise. Correct me if I am wrong!
Actually some of the shotsposted above are from older versions. If you wqnt to see how bad they chopped the lighting engine in the recent versions, you have to trey an olser version of the game again.
Tryst me. It's day and night. This new lighting engine makes everything look like it's viewed through sun glasses....and a bad pair of sun glasses.
Dawn and dusk colors are pitiful. All that beautiful orange light, giving such nice natural orqnge hue to everything from clouds, to water, to grass and fields, was replaced with a murky dark gray mess.
Reflections are almost gone. The cockpits and skins lost a lot of the natral look. Just ask the skiners how bad did this 'new' engine mess up the colors on older skins. Shadows cloud shadows, and the subtle way shadows affected reflections are also gone.

The best way to see the difference is to find an older version and try it yourself. It's like going ten years back in time.

This is what you get when a lighting engine calibrated by a professionl photographer is "fixed" by artisticly impaired computer programers, that didn't see a sunset out in the country in a too long time.

Let me remind you what we had:

these pics DO look terrific no question about that! Especially the combination of morning fog and dawn lighting look great

Anyway I'd rather fly a sim with partly dumbed-down graphics like it is now and can actually FLY the sim smoothly than just look at the graphics, shout "WOW, it looks so beautiful" and then exit, because I can't actually use this as a game.

Lets just hope that they are able to get at least some of it back (maybe in the sequel) without a loss in fps.

Is there any way to go to a previous version? Cause Steam doesn´t let you play without having done the update to the last official...

My earlier vershion plays just as well as the current beta, but the beta has a better sound...a real dilemma for me

Ah I miss those graphics. I think when they redid the lighting to get rid of the Shrek green noon hour colors they fudged the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There was something truely fun about going for a solo morning flight with all the sunlight, clouds, and fog. I really wish they could bring that stuff back but with keeping the sounds and stability of the newer versions of the game.

I guess we can hope the sequel can deliver and return the channel map to greatness?
