Its maybe the relative disparity between SP and MP play?
In SP arcade you fly a virtual tank able to shrug off most attacks where as the enemy planes seem to be made of paper and explode at the slightest hit (reminds me of the Simpsons where Homers making Mr Burns breakfast and the cereal sets on fire) where as online in arcade everyone has a flying bullet sponge so what SP experience tells you should be a definite kill suddenly isn't.

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, what games have you ever played where its the same difficulty online as offline? If it was as easy as single player, it would be the worst online experience ever, there would be planes blowing up in every direction, and you'd have kids shouting 'OWNED' every minute. If anything, it should be harder to blow up a plane in single player. Anyway, regardless, I dont think that a single player experience should define the rules of online play.

I do like this game and have finished the campaign and all the single missions but i really bought it for online and it blows.

I've never had a game that was so hard to find a match, there are never any realistic or simulator servers only the occasional arcade match with 3 or 4 players and arcade sucks.

This game is never going to have a decent community if no one is even playing it in the week that it shipped. It pains me to say it but tomorrow I'm going to trade it in. I so wanted this to be a great online game but sadly it was not meant to be.

Thats a shame, because I think there are many people (such as myself) who still havent got their copy yet. Plus i think many will play through the single player missions before doing much online. I think you need a bit more patience, you're giving in a bit early if you are ready to give up on it when it hasnt even been out a week yet.

The whol crashing on purpose to avoid giving the other team a point after you have been wounded works half of the time...iv noticed when you shoot someone with in a span of 5-10 secs before they crash the person shooting gets the kill, any longer and it just says "crashed"

Yeah, there are a lot of people who love the game but don't have much time in MP yet. SP has a LOT to offer, and when you unlock planes and loadouts to be used in MP, people want a good stock before spending the majority of their time online.
Not to mention private rooms, which is what many of us stick to most of the time. I've had some open rooms, but not many.

To Pup & Kryptonite

I've never had a game where no one played it during the first week. I understand there is a lot of SP content, but I don't believe people are not going to have an MP game until they have completed it all.

This game is DOA. 90% of owners will only play arcade anyway, most quit in disgust when they realised they needed to do ten times more damage to an enemy plane than in SP mode to have any chance of scoring a kill, and then most likely they would be cheated out of a score by a crash or bail out. Most of them tried a couple of MP games and never came back.

I've had 1 simulator match with 3 players, 1 realistic dogfight with 8 players, 5 of whom quit during the game after spining into the ground for the umpteenth time and a few arcade games with a half a dozen players. All in 5 days.

I've never come across a game with such a poor amount of players online in launch week. I'm going to trade in this against a copy of Beatles Rockband that is coming out Friday, I would recommend IL2 to anybody, but not for MP it was DOA.

This game is amazing, but it has some serious multiplayer issues

1.) sometimes I spontaneously explode whenever I spawn
2.) Planes disappear and reappear while I am targeting them
3.) I keep hearing the little "hit" sound, as I spray a target with bullets, yet they don't die (one guy was spewing smoke as I got three "hit" sounds in a row, still didn't die!)
4.) People crash into the ground after being shot, and I don't get credit for the kill
5.)I found all this out today because I was finally was able to join a multiplayer match... I have been trying since Thursday!

Please please please hear our collective cries for an outstanding online experience. I want this game to succeed so bad!

This is coming from a guy who has been waiting for this game about two years, told everyone he knows about it, bought an ACE EDGE just to be able to truly get the full experience and I can tell you I am pretty put off by these major issues.

If I am dissuaded from online matches, imagine the average joe gamer renting this game to give it a try

anyone else having these issues or is it just me?
I've decided to put my one to one side and wait and see what is done about all the issues with the game. If not sorted then trade in time and next time i will be waiting to see before i get another one like this. This is my first sim game too and not confident about getting another one unless i play before i buy.

I'm not sure if you're aware after the 3 dozen threads about it, but the game hasn't shipped to al ot of people yet. There was a huge issue with street dating on this game, so a lot of the people won't be able to pick it up til today. Add that to the game coming out at the start of Labor Day weekend and anyone can see why there may not have been many people on. Please think things through and read what others say

That was a stupid post, the game debuts in the UK top 10 and you're trying to tell me not a lot of people have the game yet. Think about it.
