ok just tried it!
the with that ammo you can blow up those fuel storages with the bf's now!
you can also make some other buildings to collapse totally!
waoh!
i have to try this online!will be fun to blow up hurris and spits with some short bursts!
i wonder if that is some mistake by the devs...

well its not like a tracer...you cant see it..but you will see flashes when you actually hit a target!and those flashes produce really big holes.

So these rounds and a tracer would be ideal in the E1? Ok cool nice info..

Couple of things:

Is this a bug or does anyone know much about that ammo type and secondly if I just load that round an then a tracer round in the loadout I.e only 2 diff ammo types in each gun would that mean that every other round fired would be a tracer or should you stick say 9 lots of observer rounds and then 1 (10th) round being a tracer?

well if you only load those two types, they should alternate,..meaning every second bullet will be a tracer.
but you will not be able to use the loadout in those default quick missions!!!
you have to make your own mission and load you plane with that ammo!

No but you can use it online if you save it via the loadout screen? Bit harder to tell with Axis planes but the Allied plane loadout are working for me if I change them online

i think it works online!will try it out.
but to be 100% certain, load only beobachtung bullets, when you are online, this way you will know, because they dont have a leuchtspur(tracer).so if you fire your guns you will see nothing, except when you hit something.in that case there should appear flashes on the target!

I found they are effective against buildings and Blenheim fuel tanks (few rounds in the wing root and the whole plane disappears in a fire ball), but rather ineffective against Hurricane and Spit. So I switched back to a more armor piercing mixture of beobachtung and full-metall-jacket to get through the pilot armor plating.
