Ps: note to cryptic, think you'll find it was The British Empire and not as you say England involved in the mild colonial fracas!

a little question : what is the difference between the english flag i know (red cross,white cross and four blue triangles and this one(red cross on a white square)this one i often saw in a stadiums and which is the same colors that the english rugby and football teams clothes?(exuse me for my poor english grammar)

Correct, it was the British Empire, the United Kingdom of Great Britain or just Britain. I was just posting a quick answer to the question asked.

Hello mate.
The union flag (the United Kingdom)

Is made up from the following:
St. Georges flag of England

St. Andrews cross of Scotland

And St. Patricks cross of Northern Ireland


Is this what you meant?
Hence in the rugby and football you'll tend to see the individual flags flown by each nation.
