We got the same message from Puolenkuunpelit

Indeed looks like that the Collector's Edition has been cancelled altogether.

It's more likely that they jumped the gun and put it up for sale before confirming that they could get it, the original announcement from UBI did state that the CE would be "Exclusively Available" on the UbI webshop.

Quoting jcenzano's post who's quoting Puolenkuunpelit:

We are very sorry about the new release information.
The few times we confirmed the products availability the suppliers told the collectors edition was coming according to Ubisoft's release lists.
This was from the cancellation mail gotten from Puolenkuunpelit. My friend got the same.

Unhappy Boostep feedback

Hi guys,

FYI - Got this email this morning from Boostep which I have ordered from, being in the U.S:

"Hi,

unfortunatly I have some bad news about the IL-2Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Collectores edition: Ubisoft has decided to cancel the release of this game. Here is the official statement from UbiSoft Nordic:

IL2: Cliffs of Dover Collector's Edition
----------

Due to a failure in the manufacturing of several components for IL2: Cliffs of Dover ?I am sorry to inform you, that Ubisoft not will be able to deliver this product as ?requested and furthermore we will not start up the manufacturing again.
I have arranged to have the standard version exclusively for the ?Nordic countries only due to the fact this version only was meant to ?be a downloadable version.
I apologize for the inconvenience this may have cost you and customers.
?Ubisoft Nordic A/S

The good news is that I can offer you a Special Nordic edition for the price of 43 euros + shipping. If you choose to order this version I will refund the difference, of course.
If you choose to cansel the whole order I will refund the whole sum of money.
I am truly sorry abut this since I know many people has been waiting for the release of this game. And I hope the possibility to purchase this special nordic edition some how can compensate parts of the inconvenience. I have ordered some of this game already so all preorders that has been placed for the collectors edition should get one of these nordic edition. It is to my understanding that the difference is mainly that the booklets and such is not included but the game is the same.

Kind regards,
Monika / Boostep customer service"

I'm going to look into whether the CE is generally cancelled and clarify this stuff.

LOL ... I just logged into my boostep account to see the same message.

This is hilarious.

UBI: That's a pathetic excuse.

I've dealt with major product releases in the banking world for years (i.e. new bank accounts / credit products etc.) It's very easy to source an alternative supplier of materials to get your product out. You simply pick up the phone or type on your keyboard and get expressions of interest to supply you with the materials you need. Hell we've even sourced manufactures for promotional material from China and India for goodness sake. Yes you may be delayed, and yes it's embarrassing, but as matter of professionalism, heart and intestinal-fortitude, you'd do what ever it takes to get the product out. It's all about professionalism; this statement is purely a financial cop out in my eyes, nothing more.

Edit: WTF: I just contacted EBGames Australia. I confirmed the CE edition is available for pre-order $109.95 but there's no release date set. It's not listed on the customer web site at the moment but they have it listed internally and the guy said I could pre-order it today.

I didnt realise how complicated buying a game could be, then ubisoft showed me.

they are killing the image of this game with their antics.. started with the whole pre-order collectors/"no soup for you" stance. no collectors for anyone.. too hard.

probably too late and will never happen, but if 1C decide to sell this directly as a download with all profits going to them and not a cent Ubisoft, i'll happily pay for it twice.

Just went into EB games and they said CoD and the collectors edition was available for preorder. $109 AUD for CE and $89 for normal game. The bloke was very helpful and was even aware of the existence of the game. However he had no release date and said it would likely be released in the US before oz as it would have to come through EB's American parent company game stop.

At a guess this suggests to me that game stop will be stocking both editions.

But just one more thing- has anybody ever had to go through such hassle to buy a commercial product?

Ubi strikes me as one of the most incompetent companies I have ever had anything to do with. Are the a listed company? If I were a shareholder I would be dumping my stock as clearly this company has a very low opinion of it's customers.
