There were blenheims flying over as early as 1940 while Uncle Joe was signing non agression pacts and MkIX Spits out of Northolt and P51's( over to you on this Bobbysocks) in 1943 while Russia was fighting in the Kursk and Korsun campaigns- so in truth they were there before Russian planes even entered German airspace.

Fighters:
Yak-3 (Decent turn radius, field of view, and firepower)
Hurricane (Excellent firepower, can carry a bomb, decent speed)
Bf109 series (Fair planes all around)

Bombers:
IL-4 (Outstanding turn, 4 250kg bombs, fastest firing guns in game perhaps)
A20G (almost considered by myself a Heavy Assault Fighter, but a bomber still)
He-111 H-6 (Unlocks 32 50kg bombs early, excellent in CTA)

And some advice, don't fly a American/British/Italian plane over Berlin, Stalingrad, etc. Or a IL-2 over Britain. It doesn't go right, and many players will refuse to play if this is the case. Its just wrong to see such things.
eh?

A tip sombody gave me was to raise your flaps after you touch down. i was having the same problems with the spitfire and the 109s never had a succesfull landing with neither till i tried this the p51 is one of the easier planes to land

Of course there was the Belgian air force, which may have flown over Berlin. There was the lend-lease program, but the planes don't have Soviet markings. I'm simply saying, it makes me feel odd seeing a Hurricane over Stalingrad, with the year set to 1940.

Well it would make you feel odd because in 1940 Russia was still kissing hitlers backside.
But that is historical fact whereas this is a game. The quintessential word being Game.

If you have armaments missing for your IL2/M/10 and they're unlocked by destroying Strike targets you can land near them, get up close to them and let it rip with your cannons. The recoil on them will push you back to easily move to the next.

It will work with any aircraft with a cannon.

EDIT: After getting hate mail on PSN after i did this, i want to know if this is regarded as 'dishonorable, cheap'?

I would say 'knock u'rself out mate'. Get the unlocks anywhich way u can. Landing and shooting up concretebunkers with your cannons, is as honourable as it can get in my view!
I unlocked quite a few bombs&stuff by simply crashing my plane into the target Kamikazestyle.

I got my first unlock for the IL2 by crashing into stuff. Do it on arcade, 300 tickets, 3 minutes. In arcade, there is no such thing as honor since everyone is just 1 out of some 1700. In Simulator, everything is much more personal.

If you keep getting hate mail, use the grief report function.
