That meteor photo is fake, the tractor trying to pull it is way too small . But seriously... I think there should be a reflection of the wing extending from where you see the reflection of the engine in the water. The shadow, as mentioned previously, is not present on the water as well...

The Lancaster picture is certainly a "fake" but I don't think it purports to be anything other than a cover for an adventure novel. The Meteor on the other hand is most certainly genuine and I think Bongo's is the best explanation.

The Meteor had an appalling record. More than half the 'planes built ended up being written off in crashes.
