Hi,
You should also try using a fps limiter: Bandicam works marvel to suppress stutters and hiccups of the last patch for me . Look at this forum thread for details. Gabu

I do not know, how dual core cards exactly work. Does it improve with an optimized sli config? I am not the right guy, but with his power he should have way less problems, than your ati card. But I think, that this dual core tech is causing these stutters. Try modified profiles for the card. Perhaps the next patch will be again officially certified from nvidia in sli matters, but do not count on it, as nvidia needs to certify a beta patch. Hopefully this happens.
Did he already tried to play with 1 core (don' know, if possible, but could improve stutters). That is for aure not a good alternative, but I know about many guys throwing their 290s and 590s out of the window, as they were fed up of the stutters, especially inganes from smaller companies, as they are additionally programmed bad and have no improvements/support. Any 590 guy here to help him? |

Problem he is possibly having if he is running the last retail patch, is probably not enough video ram for the settings he's trying to run. He should change textures from original to very high and turn trees and buildings down to medium because the card is fast enough it just doesnt have enough vram. Also turn AA off or down to 2x as it doesnt really do anything yet anyway.
I used to have GTX580's 1.5GB cards in SLI and the stutters were traced to overrunning the onboard vram. I now have 3GB GTX580s and no stutters. The retail patch even runs smoothly for me now and the latest beta runs even better. The game used to use nearly 2GB Vram in the retail patch with all settings at maximum at 1920x1080 res. This is reduced in the latest beta to about 1.6GB on average but you can see it still exceeds available Vram for the standard 1.5GB GTX580/590 cards. (GTX590 has 3GB total with 1.5GB per core) |

I run it fine (for me) on a 590 (or sometimes two). I'm using the latest beta drivers 304.79.
I believe limiting frames is the best answer for SLI. I don't actually believe there's any obvious improvement using SLI currently but it does work each processor less (~33% with four, ~70% with two) and the video ram is used up to 1.3gb per core out of 15gb. I have everything on maximum settings (not trees with current beta) both in game and in the driver profile and experience no troublesome stuttering. I force alternate frame render 1 Limit fps to 30, which for me is fine when it's smooth. I can't remember whether I put my specs in the sig here but if your friend wants my settings, he's welcome.
