"Steam says installing 1 update Microsoft VC Redist Package (update 1 of 1)"

I get this message each time I start the game, but I guess I am one of the "lucky ones" that does not have the CTD issues.
So CTD may not necessarily be related to the above message., but I agree the above is a steam issue.

system spec.: Microsoft Windows Vista(6.0.6002 sp2), HP-Pavilion, AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core processor, Memory 3GB
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GT440

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Would it be okay to ask a few of you to go through exactly the same steps as I did ( but I see some of you will not get the Microsoft message) just to see if you get a launcher crash too?

If more people get the same crash, it may be a start to tracking down the Launcher problem (as long as we file crash dump files).

Cheers, MP

I did it the same way as you 3 times in a row, no ctd for me.

MP, I didn't use the first 4 lines of your proceedure as they are irrelevant to me but I followed the rest of the proceedure (not the auto pilot) and can't get the launcher crash that you are getting. I find that when the quick mission screen is available again I have to hit fly twice then it re-launches into the Calais mission. Tried this about six times with the same result, no launcher crash.

You can make it quit checking for the VC package in the startup, there's a thread in the steam forums detailing how.

Basically, it's running a check to see if you are on the original version, but hopefully by now, you have the latest version, and it never downloads anything. I have the pop-up reappear (along with the logo.wmv) everytime they patch the game.

MP, in your ....\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder there is a file called 63950_install.vdf, cut it out of there and paste somewhere safe. From what I can see it's the one called to install the redist package...dunno that it will fix your ctd issue but it should stop Steam trying to install the redist package everytime.

Also used your method 5 times and no ctd...

Cheers

Goanna

I never try to run the game twice in a row, that does cause crashes.

Always exit and rerun.

Well having taken the advice above, I no-longer get the 'Installing Microsoft Redist" message. Cool!

I do however now get Launcher crashes every time I play the game, during the middle of a mission. I get black artefacts (no it's not the Graphics card getting hot...it's fine and works in every other game!) flashing onto the screen...and then the Screen goes completely Black, the sound keeps running and if I hit Escape it tells me that the Launcher has stopped working.....again!

I honestly want to like ClOd, I really do...but so-far I have never completed a mission without a Launcher crash...it's CloDDY ridiculous!

I'll just wait again for the next Alpha/Beta patch...give it a try and see what happens

I have enabled my Log files, so now get Crash dumps....but can't find the email address to send them too?

Any chance of that email? Cheers, MP
