Default Launcher exe - Problem Centre

I've started this thread to enable CoD users who have Launcher exe (L-e) problems to be able post to one dedicated source, The object of this thread is to tabulate all the L-e failures users are experiencing, and to give the Dev's some idea what the problem is. My proposal is that we break the problem into three sections, Problems, System Spec and Graphics Settings. I would advise that when stating your specific problem, keep it short and to the point (we don't want to bore the Dev's do we), and dont use abusive language (The Dev's are doing their best to be all things to all men)!!
To the fortunate users who don't have L-e problems (lucky blighters), please refrain from making unhelpful comments, the more flyers we can get over "The Channel", the better the sim will be!!!

Problem: I can only get onto the odd Historical (The Channel) Servers without getting L-e failure. If do get onto a server, I can take off. start to fly over The Channel, it's at this point that I notice that "Fraps" fps is starting to wind down from 40-60 range to less than 20 fps. The sim goes into "stutter vision" and L-e failure results, requiring a System Manager restart. If I join a server such as Doom Island or Steppe, I can fly for hours until in close combat, then it L-e crashes. I did note that Beta 1.03 was the most stable for me.

System Q6600 2.7Gb (2.4Gb) 4Gb 667Mhz DDR2 Ram MSI N460GTX 850core !950Mem (780x1750) Vista 32 Bit Monitor 22" 1440x900 (1680x1050)

Graphics Settings Everything set to medium except: Forest-Low Texture-High SSAO-On Grass-Off Shadows-On Roads-On All 3D settings done on graphics card for better fps (Although it made no difference to L-e problem when letting game set 3D).

As I have no problems with any other sim I own, the problem must be with the Graphics Engine used in this sim. I have worked with the "Mods" on Cliffs of Dover Forum, but their suggestions didn't solve the problem (At least they tried). To conclude, either this sim was "over sold" to low spec system users and it will never work properly, or there is a problem that the Dev's will sort out. I do hope it is the latter, as this sim could be brilliant if it worked for low spec users.

So if you have a L-e problem, don't moan about it, get typing!!!!

Good luck

Try SSAO-Off. You did not mention land-shading settings. Try low.

But in your case the problem is probably a 32-bit OS. They were less stable from the very release.

Reinstall all the programs from the \redist\ folder under steam.

Did you send crash-dumps to luthier during beta2?
Some people who sent many dumps reported that their problems were fixed in release version (no crushes any more). So do it now if you did not back then.

If you ever experience a crash, we want to see your crash dump! There is a
Cppcrash Folder under your main game install
([Program Files]\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover)
Which contains a .dmp file for each game crash.
We’re very interested in those. Please forward them to
ishevchenko (at) 1cpublishing.eu
along with your system specs and the description of what you were doing at the time of the crash.
NOTE: we will be looking at all your crash dumps, but I may not necessarily be able to answer general questions or suggestions (while I do read them all)

Thanks for your prompt reply Ataros

I haven't sent crash dump files as I wasn't sure where they are in my program files. The only file I see is one called 'dumps' under Steam files, not in Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover. In this file are files starting with: assert_launcher.exe_20111014171033_1.dmp plus another 18 similar files in the 400-530KB range. Already done the\redist\ bit, even downloaded DotNet from MS because posters stated this was more up to date. Being 6 months younger than BoB, computer skills are not my strongest subject. So if you could "hold my hand", and guide me through sending these files, it would be most helpful. I don't hold up much hope for a successful outcome though, if what you say proves to be true about 32 bit OS.

Kind regards

Vonte

Looks as if you've got the dreaded 32 Bit OS. Keep watching this thread, you never know, we sufferers may get an answer from the Dev's.
