Has anyone managed to get CoD working in Windows XP? Or is Win7 what is really required?

+1 Naz.

Slm, I started with XP and Clod worked reasonably OK with my Nvidea GTS250 following the first few patches using medium to low video settings.

So XP can work but the general consensus for better performance was to upgrade to win7 64 which I did along with a GTX560ti. I'm now running with much higher settings on the same Duel core.

I asked because I get this huge rendering problem when flying at low altitude over sea. I've reported it in bug threads twice, yet nothing seems to be happening. I don't see others complaining about it so....

It would be nice to see some official statement whether 1C thinks XP is a valid OS for this game.

When this game works, it works so good. I have been playing Il2 since the release of the original demo waaaaaaaay back when.

After countless hours tweaking and testing, reading and making a few posts here about my FPS troubles and generally pulling my hair out, I have finally got the game running well and am now simply enjoying flying.

I just did the first two missions of the Eagle Day LW campaign that adonys was kind enough to translate from the Russian forums and post here. I had the most absorbing and fun two hours in a flight sim in years. Constantly taking care of my engine, constantly watching my instruments, constantly trying to keep track of where everyone was (ashamed to admit i was an icon addict in IL2)...and all the while the sim looking gorgeous (to my eyes at least)... I bagged a hurricane and a part kill of another in mission one before returning to Calais badly shot up, and then bagged a Spitfire and a Blenheim in my second mission.... I loved every second of it.

There is a hell of a long way to go with this game, we all know it... but I hope those of you still having problems, those that are upset/disappointed/annoyed can stick with it...Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the frustration many are experiencing (especially those with the multiplayer sound issues)...but, when the game works, its just wonderful despite the many flaws. I look forward to CloD's further improvement and development.

Thank you Luthier and the devs...CloD is a diamond, rough as hell in many parts, but a diamond nonetheless.

I realize this is basically a nothing post, and is purely just my opinion...but if nothing else I hope Luthier realises that he's got at least one happy customer (albeit after much initial frustration) who is excited for what more is hopefully to come.

I am about to finally uninstall IL2-1946, I cant go back now...farewell old girl, you served me well for many years.
Running 14821 and PC spec's in sig.

I mostly agree with the OP with respect to COD's potiental. Here are my vedio settings:

The game runs good and without significant performance issues on my almost 1 1/2 year old PC with the above settings. COD performs well over water, land, and London without studder, or crashes. I think my old dual core video card with 1.8 GB of memory is the Key but that is only a guess at the COD's bottleneck.

With respect to dogfighting, after a few weeks of playing mostly quick missions, I have yet to be shot down by an AI A/C. I was shot down by the rear gunners (both the 110 and JU87) and by friendly fire. As an off-line player, the AI performance IMHO is just not very good and I fear the AI may be a long term problem. The AI performance is my biggest disappointment but I may be in the minority. I hope that developer priority will be applied to improve the AI performance in the coming update patches.

XP is listed on the system specs and on the DVD case, to me that confirms it is supported.

I did not have any rendering problems even though my GTS250 only had 512Mb of memory, most that did were using ATI cards.

I read your post and what struck me was that there were no problems prior to some of the updates. You should be running with DX9 if using XP so might be worth checking that your cnfg file has not been changed to DX10.

I can tell you where to look but cannot remember the exact text for DX9. But at least you can check that it does not read the same as the line highlighted below (which is for DX10).

Open the file named 'conf' using notepad, you will find it in:

MyDocuments- 1CSoftClub - IL-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover.

I checked this conf.ini and it's using DX9.
Render=D3D9

Interestingly many of these settings files are also in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
but there some values are missing. For example all values starting from Render are missing from conf.ini in this Program Files\... folder.
