You are running win7, but maybe there was a patch involved, or an application that generates this desktop benefit and that is what is bugging you.

It is very fast to check it out. More than reinstalling the game.

Worked like a charm, thank you very much for that. Now on to making full screen work. There is however a little mouse lag that exists but that might be just be my trackpad on the laptop. Going to try the screen resolution thing now. Thanks.

Got the screen resolution working now. Thank you everyone for the help and making it so that I didn't need to do a full reinstall.
