im fixing things so you dont have to play around with Digital Vibrance ! check the mods section. feedback from those hating the default colours is required, most folks feedback is from a liking of the colours. and dont forget to reset the digital vibrance of course.

Well Tree, flying through trees is indeed very strange, and becomes annoying after some time.i agree with you.dont understand why they just cannot make the trees to have hitboxes like buildings. i know it has been mentioned that its not possible because of playing online, but it should be optimized that far, that everyone is able to play with trees on,so there wouldnt be a problem with some flying without trees but hitting them.its weird in 2011 to have a simulator where you fly through "weed" like a lawnmover.

best solution is to probally have a very basic hitbox in the dimensions of a basic tree stump, a pole !. but the problem is that attaching a new hitbox for every tree (how many trees) might just break the performance we are striving to optimise. and if the network code does not take that into account, flying online would be unfair with a full trees setting v a very low tree setting/

planes whilst able to crash into trees, generally dont so it may be deemed inappropriate for the sim for various reasons. untill there is a satisfactory way of doing it its best left as is unfortunatly. and well ive no doubt that 1c would like to apply collision details to the extent of trees.

maybe one day.

...or an hitting plane, a single 2d object in substitution of a row of trees.

lol....lets see how annoyed you get when/if they give trees collision models, and I turn mine off on my modest rig, then you follow me down to the dirt through the trees I dont have but you do. Just a thought

I bet that if the trees get collision detection, the amount of trees will become a server enforced parameter to ensure consistency for all players, then most servers will set it to low to ensure smooth framerates for all their players.

From the FAQ at Simhq:

10. Q: I can fly through trees without receiving any damage.

A: Since Cliffs of Dover has more shrubbery in it than perhaps any other flight sim developed so far - hundreds of thousands of trees around the player - enabling collision for the trees grinds the game to a complete halt, especially as they need to be tracked around every plane on the map and not just the player's. Making collisions less precise leads to equally poor results, when planes may fly through a tree but crash into seemingly empty space.
We know this is extremely important. The solution is there, but it still eludes us.

I think the only way for now to make trees "lethal" is to make one big invisible box around a set of trees, much like the old Il2 trees where the ones made out of 4 planes with 4 different textures on them were collideable but not the ones who were "actual trees"

It's never been a problem for me, but I guess on line it coud be a trick to get away or to sneak up on targets , but since the landscape isn't completely planar that won't work in the long run

Nice rig Tree! As mine is rather similar I also know that throwing hardware at the problem works rather good

This is probably a very silly comment to make (telling devs how to...), but it struck me before when I read that quote.

Usually in most missions aircraft are confined to a relatively small area of the map so why is not possible to only activate damage effects for trees when aircraft are within a certain distance?

That would certainly change the number needing to be tracked from several hundred thousand to something more manageable. Also discounting aircraft flying above a certain height and it gets even more manageable.

I'm sure this must not be possible or they would have already done it, but why wouldn't some kind of algorithm like this work?

Good to see you still posting Tree.

Nice rig! I was just reading up on the Sabertooth yesterday... I'm not convinced it really does that much for cooling but it sure looks cool

Anyway about the trees. I don't have ClOD as my rig is CrAP, but can you guys tell if they are always in the same spot?
If they're semi-randomly generated it might not be possible to give them hitboxes (yes, that is wild speculation, not an assertion.)
