The current 6DOF works fine but LOOKS horrible in places especially where "fake" 3D switches etc have been painted on flat 2D panels or in some of the older less used aircraft where their are gaping holes you can see through in the cockpit..
The current 6DOF therefore suits people dog-fighting but is annoying for those who actually like to just fly around and admire the eye candy and snap screenies. Seeming as 6DOF is already available to those who want it, their seems no benefit in making it official. All that would happen is a a whole bunch of long flame threads whining about the visual glitches. |

This thread is not about 6dof as the only people that benifits is track IR or free track users, I have neither.
The thread is about the fact that I can make my entire mirror assembly disappear by pushing a set key & then I can magically make it appear again. If you are flying full switch it makes a mockery of it. The system should be set up so the mirror face disappears & the mirror holder or assembly stays in position. I find it amazing how people complained about the FW190 bar being restrictive & yet on a plane with a mirror I can alter my field of view by simply reaching out of my cockpit at 450mph & ripping it off & when I want to check my 6 I can stick it back on when ever I feel like it ( I just magically pop rivit it back onto the cockpit frame & I am at 7k) |

Does having mirrors enabled had a detremental effect on the planes performance in IL2? ( For planes with external mirrors that is!) I think that was the only reason i've read that pilots removed their mirrors!

Yep that is the real reason they can be toggled.
They were introduced at a time when mirrors slowed all but the most expensive gaming rigs to a standstill. Toggling the mirrors meant normal people (who had not sold their grandmother to buy a high end game rig) could take advantage of mirrors when they needed them without making the game unplayable. In online terms, fixed mirrors disadvantaged people on slower machines. |
