This mission is frustrating as you have a fair bit of flying to do before you get to the Airfields and the limited attempts will get you cursing. Weather doesn't help either.
1. Don't ask me why, but I found it easier to go to the most Northerly runway first and land there using a southerly approach for all three. I also practised landing on a few fields first rather than keep flying to the runways and having to start again each time I failed. Some say you only need to touch down, cant verify that as I always landed and came to a standstill (eventually) Landing flaps enabled, I keep my airspeed to around 96-100 mph before touch down and try to land at the start of the runway. Reduce throttle slowly, stick back but don't be tempted to pull it all the way back yet or try and slow down too quickly, apply rudder and guns firing at around 40mph and now use the stick. The trick with this seems to be allowing the plane more runway to actuall slow down and letting the plane to settle on the rear wheel naturally. I always use the rudder (a method used with flight sims that have carrier landings but where the plane has no tail hook). Now that is fun, especially if you are watching others land while you sit on the deck having already done it! Last edited by SEE; 12-06-2009 at 01:51 PM. |

figure out which direction the rain is falling or clouds are moving, and land into the wind if possible.
Other than that, in single player mode, once you have safely touched down, if you pause the game and switch to standard wireless controller layout you will have wheel brakes working automatically. Raise the flaps and apply elevator but don't push the tail down so much that it bounces back up. I think that's one thing that makes the plane tip. There's a small bump right in the middle of the smaller UK airfields, and if you're applying downforce to the tail when it hits that bump, it makes it bounce up, like hitting a springboard. I agree the big airfield in the northeast is the best place to start. You could land a 747 on that. |
