Definitely a good point, if you don't disable UAC and WindowsDefender. |

I recently asked about this issue on the UBI HelpDesk forum. As always they are a helpful bunch and will email a fix for the 'spinning disc'. Check out ....

Does the quote above mean IL-2 1946 will not run on EU/UK/ASIAn and Aussie machines? And, if so, is there a fix? Thanks." Tanimbar "No, it's not as dire as you think. Windows 7 x64 here, running just fine in Devon UK. Firstly, not all copies of 1946 sold in the UK are SecuRom "protected". Next, if you do encounter the "spinning disc" problem then let us know and someone will post you the very simple fix." |

Even more practical is a separate partition on the hard-drive. It saves the need to defrag the gigabytes that the game(s) take up, and preserves them if you ever need to format and reinstall your OS. You just have to take care with selecting the filepath when up-dating or adding skins, missions and so on. I also like Win 7 64bit, it's a good replacement for XPx86 imo B

Just wasted another couple of hours because of securerom malfunctioning.
Shipping versions of IL2 at this late stage with a securerom that is totally incompatible with win7/64 and requires the machine to be online to update it is inexcusable and shows no respect for customers. If anyone ever starts a class action to sue UBI over the time and money wasted due to securerom let me know ![]() Last edited by WTE_Galway; 12-06-2010 at 02:11 AM. |

I have advised the user to forget about IL2 and they are returning the game to the store.
Does anyone have a link to info about removing securerom from a system?? ... they are not keen on reinstalling windows. |

Hmm I am running also a Win7 Professional system, IL2 1946 works fine. Only online there is a issue that the landscape turns black every now and then, and then with in minutes crashes. Shifting my screen resollution to a poor setting. When reset I can fly right away again, and the problem might first appear in over an hours time again. This does not happen off line. But I am guessing it is either a graficscard issue, or my DSL conection is not fast enough.

I have no problems with W7 64bit Premium.
Initially it installed fine to the default file path with UAC turned off but when I ran the game I found that I have no sound from my wingmen or ground control. Once I moved the whole game folder into it's own C: folder I have had no problems with it or HL. And if for some reason it won't fully install I once had this happen (in XP) as well and this is what I had to do to get it to fully load onto my machine: From Micrsoft Support Article ID: 314810 Method 2: Change the memory settings for installation To change the memory settings for installation, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK. 3. On the BOOT.INI tab, click Advanced Options. 4. In the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box, select the /MAXMEM= check box, and then change the setting to 256* (or lower if your computer has less RAM). 5. Click OK to close the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box. 6. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Apply. 7. Click OK to close the System Configuration Utility dialog box. 8. Click Restart to the following message: You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect. 9. After you restart your computer, install Office as a Complete Install. 10. After you install Microsoft Office, follow steps 1 through 8 to clear the /MAXMEM= check box. At step 9 installed 1946 and then went to step 10. * = I had 2046 in the box, I lowered it to 1024. sorry I have somehow sent this off thread but it did help also installing another game by another company onto my machine in W7 as well

I had a dual XP 32 multiboot and added Win7 64 about a month ago. Didn't change any setting of IL2 1946 and it ran immediately with all my controllers, in perfect mode. As if I didn't change anything. I have a directory with an unmodified version that I duplicate if I want to throw mods over that one. I have the DVD upstairs and use a nocd, obviously.
I don't agree you should install your game anywhere on drive C. I have my games partition on D, where harddrive speeds are not the best but where filesystem fragmentation is less of an issue and reinstalling windows can be done with a format of C, as it should. |
