Yep, Iprefer team talk and strategy as well. I like to use strategic strikes, but getting some people to play as a team can be challenging. Some just get into the CTA and strike games and just fly around getting their kills. Not play the game as it was intended. I like to get with a team that we put together, because we had gotten very good at playing and using team tactics. Strike, I bomb, and a fighter or two stay with me to protect me from the buzzards while I strike, while other fighters say back to protect our ground... Same with CTA. my expertise is landings, some very creative avoiding fire, taking the field and then ground striking using small bombletts to protect it. Others in the team are better at air to air, so they take that on. My thing is hitting their people that land, and taking the landing myself.. Works out, and even though we do loose from time to time, but it is few and far between.. I like tactics and strategic over just death match type of play..

I had to play some arcade games for the first time in a long time (because its so bloody hard to find a game thanks to Operation Flashpoint 2 stealing all the online players) and I'm finding Arcade harder for me than my prefered Sim mode now. Everything is so hectic and fast paced and everyone uses the 109-g6 because it seems to be the only plane that can blow up its target before someone spawns behind you in a G-6 and reaches out with god cannons and touches you and you die. So it goes like this. Spawn, dive, hammer the guy that spawned just before you, Get killed by the guy that spawned after you, Repeat. Sim mode is so much slower, you have time to think. And without the homing markers, people can't just spawn and home in on you. It might seem so difficult at first ( It certainly did for me with Pedro the Goat murdering me at every opertunity) but after a few games you get in to it. I love it when I manage to sneek right up on someone and they don't know i'm there and on their map i'm hidden by their plane symbol. Then one small blast with the weakest of guns, makes it go boom. ![]() CTA games also improve x100 in sim mode, with hiding on the airfield in smoke or behind a building becoming a usefull tactic. You have to be found and killed before the other side has a chance at taking the airstrip. It adds so much to the game. For me it is almost painfull to play an arcade CTA game now where even an untrained monkey could land, before a second later 3 bombs and two kamikazis fall on its confused face.

Sorry for joining this thread so late. I've played a number of times online now and feel the same you guys do. I may have 5 kills so far and especially in arcade matches, do just terrible. I have to rely on hit and run tactics to stay alive. Being an avid air combat hobbiest, I get frustrated at achieving so little. I always wonder if I am choosing the wrong aircraft or what. Although I know my immelmann turns could be alot better.

@ Robotic:
Wierd, I actually haven't seen many G-6's lately. I see LOOOOOTS of Hurricanes and Spits though, and a couple of those damned biplanes. I do use the G-6 a fair bit though (Just always been a 109 fan), sometimes the F-4 for its manuverability if there's an unbearable amount of high-manuverability planes in the match. It just doesn't pack the punch, so you gotta keep on target. The G-6 is far from perfect though. It pays for all that added weight with its ability to turn. Its not hard to get behind one and blow it out of the air. As for the pattern in Arcade mode...it just kind of depends. Its entirely possible to go through many matches and only get shot down a handfull of times. Personally, I crash more than I get shot down (get too aggressive going after people who hit the deck sometimes ^^; ). But yeah, I know I've had 13/2 games before in team battle. I think once you get used to the speed and franticness, you'll be fine. I imagine its almost like a new game after coming from sim. lol As for CTA, that's where teamwork and coordination come in. Designating who is to try and land, calling out targets, focusing on bombers and attack planes, etc. Also, most kamikazies kinda suck (at least from what I've seen). Usually if you apply a little throttle, they'll completely miss, if they don't miss by themselves anyway. I love it when they completely whiff a kamikaze run and crash feet from me. I just laugh. lol. That's why I really only fly with people I know, who all have headsets. We keep a lot of communication going during our matches and try to work together. And as far as your co-op tactics...I invite them with open arms. The IL-10 is the only thing I fly, and not for the tail gunner. And I seem to have an amazing AI gunner, he's downed at least twenty player aircraft while I was on someone in front of me. He's on his way to a raise! |

As for the tactics, it really depends on the pilot too. Bad IL-10 pilots are easy to take down. They fly nice and straight trying to get tail gunner kills, and let you dive, climb and shoot them in their guts =P ...good IL-10 pilots actually put up a good fight, and manuver aggressively to keep their guns on you. Personally, I think you almost HAVE to double-team those things if you want to take them down with any efficiency. Even a G-6 has to hammer away at them to down one (in Arcade). Now what I really love are people who try to bring medium and heavy bombers into a team battle or strike. Me and the guy I usually fly with LOVE to blow them out of the air with rockets >=D lol. Das takes pride in not seeing any parachutes pop out. Says he's saving the infantry some work =P. There was this one IL-10 in a team battle once, and Das must have blown him out of the air with rockets 8 or 9 times before the match was done. Das loves his rockets. lol Last edited by RCfalcon; 10-13-2009 at 07:15 AM. |

That's how any good pilot should handle himself. The plane is only as good as the guy behind the stick. The IL-10 is a fine plane, and goddamn tough to kill sometimes. lol I do fly on the PSN, gonna go ahead and add you. Might be fun to have a go, or fly with you sometime (do you use a headset?). If you have a squad you fly with, I know Das wants to organize some squad battles with other groups. Those are always fun. Fun to team up with other groups on larger battles too. I know we fly with Nephillim and his guys sometimes. I love bomber hunting...especially in the P-47. If the rockets don't get them, the .50 cals shred them pretty quickly. I love my Jug ^^ ...still keep my 109s around for straight up dogfights though. Last edited by RCfalcon; 10-13-2009 at 07:30 AM. |

Ah, the P-47. I'm a Freight Train Fighter myself, as you've read. I use a headset alright. My squad comprises of Englishmen though, and being the only american (And having a full time job), I'm usually left without a proper squad. However, I'll fly against the most grim of odds, so me and randoms versus you guys is no big deal for me. I shall be on soon! |
