Hi,
This thread proves its possible, so how does one , having got external to an aircraft, move about it to get different views, and maybe also zoom back and forth ?
have failed to find mention of this in any forums , or on google etc.

No answers to forum posts on it, but it is possible, just a great mystery at the moment.
Never failed in sims in the past, maddox have buried this one deep it seems.

I expect to move mouse and pan around it. maybe + and - are zoom,

maybe one disables mouse from some other function first ?

I have TrackIr so if thats running, do I temporarily disable that and how ?

I want mouse control over my stills captures.

anyone help ?????

F10 changes the function of the mouse and with that ive been able to pan and move around.

Maybe the guys who make some of the fantastic movies have other secrets but that's what ive used to zoom and change the view.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mavers92,
Thanks for reply,
well that gets me somewhere, at least I can look down or up at my aircraft now.
F8 to go outside aircraft,
Then F10 and I have some functionality.

Just moving mouse takes my camera anywhere on an invisible circle track up over the top of the aircraft or around and underneath looking up at it, and no doubt it goes beyond to nose, that circle is on the aircrafts centreline, with its centre at aircraft centre. It is a vertical circle.

I now need a horizontal one to move around side of aircraft.

Now to try for moving around its side...

right mouse button down and move mouse, that gets me closer or further away, so thats the zoom.

lets try Left mouse button, , that rotates the aircraft about a point many miles away in front of it, out on its flight path. (and not me around it) and its gone off edge of screen.
Move mouse down and aircraft goes off screen at top, or maybe bottom, typing this after turning sim off.
Now thats an odd one, not much use, as it ends up off screen very quickly.

How does one move around the side of the aircraft ?

I don't know about F10, I don't remember whether I tried that, what works for me is the centre mouse button, the scroll-wheel. If you hold that down, the rest of it is then the same as in "1946" but holding down the scroll wheel without scrolling the wheel is tricky.

Anyhow, good luck, maybe that F10 is the thing to do? maybe you'll find something else and tell us?

BOBC: You should be able to switch to outside view by F2. But ths has to be allowed by the realism settings...

I do use F2 then press F10 to get the views to change. F8 is the chase view im sure. I've never really used the padlock views so not sure if these help.

Hi, this is driving me mental. I cant ad to this screenshot thread until the method is found.
In all the years of flight simming I have never spent 1.5 days trying to get to see the side of my aircraft.

F2 I cant see in the settings, does anyone know what command it is allocated to, and is that in 'game' or aircraft' or 'camera' etc ?

I must have re-allocated that to another key. The only key I allocated anything to was on my joystick, and that key removed the inst panel so I see just some instruments around my view, hit it again and they vanish, again and entire cockpit reappears. so I reckon F2 did that, but thats not of use here, I need to see my aircraft.

Can I check, does F2 for you guys show you your aircraft, or just remove the instrument panel. I reckon F2 default simply removed the panel, on mine anyway.

To get back the default settings I couldnt see an option for that, so I uninstalled via steam. Looked at steam folder and still saw the CoD folder...and in that were config.ini and other stuff.

Not impressed by steams idea of uninstall, I deleted that folder and also emptied my trashbin.

Reinstall CoD from steam, 40 mins of download later.

run it and it still has held onto my throttle allocation, so how did it manage to remember that ?

I need to get back the default settings.

At the moment I can only pan around my aircraft along a circle which is vertical based on aircraft centreline. gives me uside plan view, topside plan view, tail and nose views etc.

They should have had it one button goes external (F8 would seem to be that button) and mouse then moves view around aircraft as if in a CAD program.
I have to hit F10 to get mouse to operate in the external view, thats fair enough I guess, but panning around the aircraft then doesnt happen.

Anyone care to do a step by step on how they exit aircraft and view its side, what the wording is for each button they use and in what menu list it is.

That would solve this.

I have my sim set to default realism, are you saying I need to make it 'realistic' flight model to get F2 to work ?

F2 is a default key as far as I know for External view. Cant remember the exact location in the settings but its the same place as F8.
The default settings should return the key if you've deleted it. Also check steam apps/common/ and check the documents conf.ini too and see whats there

Hi, I cant see where one can reset this to default, looked in controls, see no reset to default option.

How is this done ?

WHAT DOES F2 DO FOR YOU GUYS, for me it simply removes the cockpit, I dont see my aircraft,

click scroll wheel mouse down is same as left mouse button after F10 is hit, F10 activates Mouse for external view work, then left mouse button rotates view but over top uto underside, when aircrat flying straight and level.

Not found a way yet to rotate horizontally around it at all.

simple fix to this.
fly your aircraft straight and level, then
talk me through what buttons and so on to hit and in what order so as to :-
a) see the aircraft
b) rotate around it horizontally

what mod are you on when doing so. I also wonder if mods have altered things. I am still with CoD from Steam, yet to mod.
