4. Run KBWotN.exe

Game starts, but after the logo screen, it crashes. Report writes several "Call stack function" and mentions SHELL32.dll and Crypt32.dll. It is a Steam verions and I have Win10. What should I do? Can anyone give me a help? Thanks!

I reinstalled the game, and Bonfire also. Normal game starts without any problem, Bonfire still crashes.
Sounds very strange. Looks like u did everything right - most people have problems if they don't rename or delete old WoTn game, but u did by the book. I'll ask Terroin (the other modder), I can't see what's wrong. right now. Have you tried starting the game from Steam? (not sure if it helps at all). I downloaded Bonfire 1 month ago and installed it with no problem, so the file should be fine.

BTW, after having a long break after Bonfire 1 and we started modding Bonfire 2, we noticed a lot of "rust" on us two folks who mod (Terroin mod, I make maps and quests), but it is coming back now... I'm adding quests to the guild, and I'm thinking of a new map(s) to add in the random pool. We're fixing the small buggs reported here (and found ourselves).

In Bonfire 2 it is soo fun to try new creatures to see what talents they will get since they start off with zero talents. they can all get 3 talents when fully evolved from NOVICE-RARE-EPIC-LEGENDARY along with stats bonus (instead of 10 levels in normal game), example:

My Cave spider first learnt RUN, then the gobot skill that doubles in numbers and moves to new location, the 3rd talent was SUMMON SPIDER OFFSPRINGS!
My Paladin first learnt "GIVE OTHER AN EXTRA TURN", then SUMMON/RECRUIT SWORDSMEN (3rd hasnt been learnt yet).
My Snake (red) has learnt: "NORMAL DISTANT ATTACK - cant remember name=WoTn Snake talent", then EAT CORPSE (as undead spider), then STUN.
My Archmage: has only learnt DISPEL as the first talent yet.
My Giant Rat (was named Cuddly Abonimation in Bonfire 1): Has learnt "THE WITCH HUNTER TALENT THAT CAST RANDOM SPELL ON IT SELF", then SUMMON RATS, and now "SWAP PLACE" (as the demoness).

There're are a massive amount of modding and planning of talents to choose from, that has to be modded at each creature. Now we have finished the Human Race, and 2/3 of the Neutral race.

to Shadan:
When starting the game in the main menu: did you choose BONFIRE button? To the right in the bottom it says WARRIORS OF THE NORTH by default, click the button for BONFIRE. That could be the issue.

Sounds good, do let us know when you have a Bonfire 2 release suitable for playtesting.
Thanks!

Question BONFIRE 2 update

I will!
I got hooked on modding, ready to make new map(s)... right now I'm polishing the medals, fixing the minor bugs (written here in the forum and found by ourselves), new quest in the guild, map adjustment (minor mistakes that most people won't see, but I see it now after having a long break from KB...).
For instance I lovered the req's for Crystal Collector since Crystal is rather scarce... and its a shorter game etc. Instead of having the Headhunter Medal giving Temp Rage when battling another hero, I added +Mana and Rage permanently for each of the 5 medal level, up to 5 Mana & Rage. More fun hunting heroes now... The Stable in the starting castle is much cheaper, we never bought it before, but actually very useful now.

The testing of creatures is huge... because of the many possibilities for development of the creature talents, and balancing them. But it is fun, and some later updates after a release is the most realistic (normal games do that too anyway...)

It will be easier playing early on and harder later. I find leveling from lvl3 to 4 is the hardest in Bonfire 1 until u get the Round Attack rage skill as level 4. Isn't that your experience too? Anyway, anybody have their max hero level if played as ENDLESS GAME and doing all the Maps? Hero Level 20-25?

And have patience... at least half a year from now...

Thank you for your reply! First of all I tried to run game from Steam and it crshed also. And no, I didn't have a chance to choose BONFIRE button because game crashes before I have to chose. Probably a Win10 issue since crash message mentions 2 dll files. I downloaded and run a dll checker to see if any of my DLL missing or corrupt but it didn't find any problem. So I am clueless, probably I will skip Bonfire. Maybe I will try Bonfire 2 later, I hope I will have better luck with that.

Ok. I understand. Could try downloading again. Then try starting the game from within the game folder by clicking the exe file. If it crashes, then try running the game in DEV mod, then the error message box descripes in more details what is wrong and mail uffemander@gmail.com what it says. It doesn't make sense to me, since the same download doesn't crash on other machines. Could u try running antispam software? Hope it helps. To run in DEV mode, you'll have to make a shortcut of the starting exe file, then rightclick the shortcut and alter the name by adding -dev (space bare between name and -dev). You can also find more info in the forum about DEV.

As I understand it, it crashes BEFORE u can choose NEW GAME, LOAD GAME etc?
And I understand if you don't wanna bother - - - Me myself, I hate having troublE installing a mod...

MAPMAKING FOR BONFIRE ????

Anyway, if someone is up for making maps for Bonfire 2, then let me know, it could just be 1-2 maps. But I warn u, the editor is like an old lady, but mapmaking is a lot easier than coding and modding, which I leave to Terroin to avoid too much headache. If so, I'll start a new topic here in the KB forum about mapmaking regarding Bonfire 2. You won't be placing creatures or treasures, we have coded some randomness in the editor which is best we do ourselves. So it is just landscaping including relevant caves/dungeons. We will do the more tough stuff like activating portals to and from dungeons or portals from one end of the map to the other, we just have to know where which one shall lead to.

Default Update on new mods

I've decided Bonfire 2 should be without new maps, instead I start making maps and quests for a completely new Crossworld mod:

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=230150

So mostly new modding for Bonfire 2 is done by Terroin. It is very fun to playtest it...

I experience the same problem when trying to play Bonfire.
I use Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) and have Steam installed on my E-drive.
I have WotN and the Ice and Fire add-on.
I renamed the original WotN folder to ORIGINAL and unzipped the 2.8 GB file I downloaded without any errors.

When I started Bonfire (KBWotN.exe) from E:\Steam\SteamApps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North the screen turned black for a few seconds and after a while the error in the attached screenshot appeared.

I tried starting the game from the Steam thingie in the system tray and I saw the count down to the 1C logo, after which the game crashed with the same error.

As a last option I started the game in DEV-mode but nothing changed in the error message.

I also checked the event viewer logs and found this error:
Faulting application name: KBWotN.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x52d7fa90
Faulting module name: KBWotN.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x52d7fa90

Faulting package-relative application ID:

When I renamed the folders again, I could play WotN and Ice and Fire without any problems.

Any ideas? If you need more info, just let me know.
