What program do you use? I recommend Photoshop, easy to make random backgrounds with it. I've heard Gimp is a similar program and free, but never used it. And good luck with creating tracers etc... that might be quite tough..

Well, for some random, blurry background you can try this: select two colors and go to Filter -> Render -> Clouds. As far as I can tell that's what Dazz used for your current sig. Just google some tutorials if you want to learn more.
I can whip you up something if you want as well.

This is what I've got so far. Since you wanted a dogfight seen I went with the realistic background instead of a blurry random one. I'm not sure how I'm going to make the tracers, but I'll figure something out. Tomorrow that is, I'm finished for today .
P.S. Please don't mind the faulty details here and there, remember the image will be smaller in your sig
P.P.S Wasn't Sonderkommando Elbe the crasher's squadron?
EDIT: Added a blurry background, maybe you like it more. Your choice.

The first one with the landscape is the best of the two. However I think the aircraft is to large for the picture size, as it compromises the perspective and picture composition. Make it a bit smaller and the pic should be good to go.

As for adding in tracers, use another picture with tracer fire and copy/paste the tracers in to that one.

I agree.. I was thinking of adding another plane, but that's tricky with perspective, lighting, etc. I'll see what Reddisback's got to say about it.
About the tracers, I think it's a bad idea to copy/paste it. Tracers are kind of smoke-like, and therefore a bit see-through. I think it's better just to create them. It should be possible, I'll just have to mess around with filters etc. I'll see what I can come up with.
