Question Problems with Tutorial

Hi,

I'm having some problems shooting down the bomber in the second tutorial. I saddle up behind the thing, hammer it with my guns, and nothing happens. I run out of bullets (or overheat the guns, or something), wait a few seconds, then try again. Eventually the 111 hits me with enough bullets to shoot me down. Then I re-load and try again.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I hear the "clicks", which I assume means bullets striking the target. But nothing happens. There are no signs of damage. No smoke, no glycol trails, nothing. It is incredibly frustrating.

Is there something that I'm missing? Do I have some crazy setting? Does the damage on the bomber reset ever time I get shot down?

What makes it extra frustrating is that I can't do anything else because I can't finish this mission. I'm ready to just return the game and move on.

I didn't have any problems when I did it. If anything, the Heinkel came down too easily! Maybe try attacking from the side, or from above... try and get some hits on the engines.
To be honest, it does sound like a bug, as the bomber's don't seem to take a great deal of damage on any setting. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? I've not seen it reported yet.

And, trust me, don't return the game.. once you get into it, its well worth keeping (especially MP)

If this is the bit I think it is you can't just go killing bombers at any time, youve got to follow instructions until told to. Before that they're wings are like a shield of steel.

You are overheating the guns. There is no ammo limit in the tutorial.

Secondly King Jareth is right - follow the instructions and it works.

No they mean you are shooting close enough to initiate the damage cam, but not necessarily hitting the target.

They are not hard to shoot down to be honest, but attacking bombers from the rear is going to get you shot down most of the time.

Those early HE111's don't have a guns underneath. Approach them from about 1500ft below, pull up aiming a third of the length of the bomber in front of it.

Or approach from above and dive through the formation, you can shoot at 2 or 3 in one pass doing that.

Thanks for all of the quick replies.

It sounds like I am doing the tutorial out of order. I do remember the guy repeating over and over "Use the target cam", or something like that. (Press L2 on the PS3 controller.) I thought I was pressing the correct button, but maybe I wasn't doing it at the right time. I'll try it again tonight when I get home from work.

Note that I'm using the standard PS3 controller. I'm holding off on a real joystick for now, but I hope to get one soon.

Hi there,

I played the tutorials in order and had the same problem, I pumped the 111 full of lead for a quarter of an hour to no avail.

Restartet the Mission, same thing.

I resolved the problem by crashing into it to bring it down, Mission success.

Must be a bug

No problem, you have to use different tactics in realistic and sim compared to arcade. In arcade planes are shot down very easily while you have a tank with wings as far as damage is concerned.

But in realistic and sim it's a different ball game, use realistic tactics, when attacking bombers come from every direction other than from behind. Dive at them, pull up at them, head-on and from the side will allow you to shoot them down while keeping out of their defensive fire or through it before they have a chance to shoot you down.

If you get a kill on one pass, great, but don't worry if you need to make multiple passes. Sometimes it can take 3 passes or so on the same bomber before you have mortally damaged it.

I also work on the bombers at the flanks of the formation first to avoid them all firing at me at once.

Wait until you go up against later variant He111's, they have guns every where, you will definitely need to use tactics other than approaching from behind to stand a chance of not getting shot down in a few seconds.

To the poster above, your probably just not hitting them, remember to aim slightly higher than straight at it from behind to compensate for its forward motion, firing straight at them means your round will probably pass just underneath them.

I completed the tutorial missions this morning.

It turns out that I was in HUD view, not external view. This prevented the tutorial from moving to the next step, even though I was pressing the button to get to the target camera (L2 on PS3). Once I went into external view, everything worked fine.

Thanks for all of the help, guys. I look forward to playing this weekend.
