Default "Herr Gheneral" Saturday, June 8 20h00 GMT on the ATAG Axis vs Allies Public Server

Alright everyone, pack away your cold weather gear and dig out your sunglasses and shorts! Pernix has outdone himself once again and has presented us with his latest exciting mission in North Africa: "Herr Gheneral".

Rommel is touring the Deutsche Afrika Korps bases, so it is imperative that the Axis airmen defend the Gheneral at all costs; and of course the Allied forces will do its utmost to bring him down!

Pernix has additional destruction and mayhem planned for both sides, so pay close attention to the briefing he has laid out for both Blue and Red Forces.

Thank you, Pernix!

Mission: "Herr Gheneral"

Prologue:

In 1942 a new Italian-German offensive isolated Tobruk from English forces in North Africa. Rommel took off from Derna on 12 June to reach Sidi Rezech near the front line, to coordinate operations. The British military secret service is aware of this flight, and knowing that it will follow a route parallel to the coast, avoiding Tobruk, organizes its air force to kill it.
The Italian-Germans defend the general, even by deceiving him, while the RAF tries to shoot down his plane.

Who was the DAK General?

In 1941 Hitler chose to put Rommel at the head of the Deutsche Afrika Korps, the contingent sent to North Africa to support the Italians. The objective was to conquer Egypt (occupied by the British), cross the Suez Canal and reach the Middle Orient.

Rommel was formally subordinated to General Italo Gariboldi but, in fact, he always acted independently of the Italian commanders, for whom, moreover, he had no respect. He started a powerful advance in Egypt, inflicting a series of defeats on the British and forcing them to a rapid retreat towards Alexandria.
For these successes Rommel was appointed Field Marshal, the highest military rank in the German army.

His advance, however, a few months later, this mission, was stopped by the English under General Montgomery, in the two battles of El Alamein.

Despite the efforts of our ground troops, the Italian-Germans are advancing on the entire front. The allies of the Free French, and the New Zealanders, have retreated within the defensive perimeter of Tobruk, which is firmly in our hands. The Royal Navy has promised that it will be possible to evacuate the stronghold, but who knows when and how this will be possible?

Tobruk airport T2 Pilots report:

Gentlemen: What we are sharing in this official report is very secret; it comes from the information that our military secret service (MI6) managed to decipher messages from the Luftwaffe. In the communications, there is talk of a flight that will transport the commander in chief of DAK, General E.Rommel, from Derna to Sidi Rezegh airport, near Tobruk. Well, your mission will be to shoot down that plane!

Attention:... radio traffic to and from Italian and German fighter bases on the coast has increased dramatically, so we expect that the aircraft escort activated by the enemy will not be less than 40 - 50 fighters. It will be important to attack their closest bases to prevent it from flying.

The plane will depart from Derna this morning, the time and altitude are not known to us, but it will certainly travel through the following quadrants:

From 13B-12B-11B south-east route, up to F12-E11-D10 south route, up to G8-F7-E6 south-east route, up to K6-K5-J4 south route, up to K3-L3 east route and landing in Q1.
Obviously ULTRA cannot be more precise, so other communications will be sent to you from the control tower as soon as they become available.
Once the mission is over, you will be free to attack enemy traffic around Derna, and remain at the command's disposal until further orders.

So these are your orders:

Game objective: You have to shoot down General Rommel's plane!
Secondary objective: Bomb the Derna fuel depots.

Good Luck Pilots!

God Save the King!

The advance of our divisions is truly overwhelming. We have bypassed Tobruk, which is closed in a pocket, and still the large Italian and German units are advancing towards the East, without giving the enemy time to reorganise.

The Italian general staff is very happy with how things are going, and even realizing that the DAK commander too often does not follow orders to advance with caution, they let him do so.

Akramak airport - home of the 1st SRAM (aircraft repair team):

Gentlemen....

Today must be a big thing, the German command has requested maximum assistance, and escort for a flight that will have to arrive from Derna to Sidi Rezegh.

t
This flight, an HE111, should transport General Rommel to the front, for one of his usual inspections.

All squadrons are asked to concentrate on the route that the plane and its escort will travel in order to prevent the British from intercepting it!

Even our squadron, even if not operational, must collaborate with all available pilots and planes capable of flying. Our task will be to station themselves above Tobruk at 5000m and prevent their fighters from taking off.
In any case they also communicated to us an approximate route of the "Rommel" convoy at altitude 4000m: from B11 south-east route, up to D10 south route, up to E6 south-east route, up to J4 east route, with landings in Sidi Rezegh. We will have to take this into account if the Control Tower requests us to intervene.

These are therefore the orders sent to all squadrons:

Main objective: You must defend the general's plane to its destination.
Game Objective, you have to destroy a seaplane carrying Commandos reinforcement to the city of Tobruk landed in Ras Uenna, position U4-9
The control tower will notify you that the convoy has taken off and its position on the map.

Good luck pilots!
Long live the king
And may the Madonna of Loreto protect you.
