AXIS BRIEFING
12-August-1942 8.00 AM
Weather Conditions : Clear. South wind 4m/s.
Tobruk radio signal 302 Mhz

In the eastern Mediterranean, the MG 3 decoy operation began in August, while the convoy to Malta MW12 was being prepared. The Royal Navy had the intention of distracting the Italian-German air and naval forces from the western Mediterranean. The Allies put in place a convoy with four merchant ships and 19 war ships, which sailed from Port Said after sunset on August 10th, and joined the convoy the morning of August 11th, sailing west to about the longitude of Tobruk, then turned back. The German submarine U-83, after communicating the convoy's position, silently followed it, requesting the intervention of the Axis air force from Libya and the Aegean. Although not falling for the trap, the Axis powers attacked the convoy off the coast of Crete, causing severe losses.

On land, the British began to deploy a small group of commandos to the north of Bardia, in order to disrupt the Italian-German rear, occupying an airport and advancing towards Gambut.

Your goal will be to contain and if possible, destroy these two initiatives.

Departure Airports:

Tobruk N°1: Mainly Italian Royal Air Force.

Gambut N°2: Mainly German Luftwaffe.

Strategic mission objective: Support bombing waves and contribute to destroying the MG3 Allied naval convoy. Position at the beginning of the mission I17-5.

Tactical objective: Destroy the concentration of English troops advancing towards Gambut. Position L1-4.

P.S. It seems that some ships are damaged, slowing down the convoy.
Be careful when using the airports around Gambut, the troops in retreat have mined the runways.
Good luck!
Long live the Axis!

Tobruk radio signal 302 Mhz

In the Eastern Mediterranean, the MG 3 operation had begun in August, while the convoy for Malta MW12 was being prepared. The Royal Navy intended to distract the Italian-German naval and air forces from the western part of the Mediterranean. The allies put in place a convoy with four merchant ships and 19 war ships, which sailed from Port Said after sunset on August 10th, and joined the convoy the morning of August 11th, sailing westward until about the longitude of Tobruk, and then returning. The Axis air force intervened, trying to sink as many ships as possible, effectively countered by our Alexandria fighter aircraft.

On land, various commando landing actions were attempted, one of which was particularly successful in the north of Bardia, this served to disrupt the Italian-German rear, occupying an airport, and advancing decisively towards Gambut.

Your goal will be to contain the waves of Italian and German bombers towards our MG3 convoy.

Departures in Flight:

4000 East: Mainly Bombers.

3000 Southeast A: Mainly Fighters.

2000 Southeast B: Fighters-Bombers.

=STRATEGIC MISSION OBJECTIVE: Attack the waves of Bombers, and destroy the Italian Warships sent against our Naval Convoy MG3. Position at the beginning of the mission I17-5.
=TACTICAL OBJECTIVE: Destroy the small coastal naval convoy located near Tobruk. Position E3-7.
p.s. Unfortunately, some ships of the convoy are damaged and slowing down our convoy that is sailing towards East. The Gambut airports are a secondary objective to intervene.

Good luck!! Long live the King!!

GENERAL SITUATION
<Description>
The Second Convoy Battle

At the beginning of 1942, the situation in the Mediterranean was particularly favorable for the Axis, although the direct intervention in the war of the USA posed, in perspective, worrying questions.
The Mediterranean Fleet, which no longer had aircraft carriers, was now also deprived of battleships,
due to the losses suffered in the last months of 1941 and, taking into account the needs on other seas, was unable to receive the necessary reinforcements, thus reducing itself to complete impotence.

Therefore, the Regia Marina, initially unknowingly, had achieved virtual control of the central-eastern Mediterranean with obvious and advantageous repercussions on maritime transport and operations.
In North Africa: Rommel with two successive offensives (January-February and May-July) would have reached the gates of Alexandria threatening the Middle East, the heart of the British Empire, putting the now annihilated Mediterranean Fleet in serious danger of being bottled up.

Therefore the British reaction could not take long.
Between the two major naval operations for the resupply of Malta, in June (Harpoon) and August (Pedestal), the British had gone on the offensive against the Axis maritime communication lines with Libya.
This mission describes the events that occurred on August 12, 1942, in the southern Mediterranean, between Crete-Tobruk-and Alexandria.
